Cotton, which the Central and South
western Roads carry now from Colnm
bus to Savannah at 20 cents per hun
dred, is rated in the new shedule at $1
35 per hundred. From Eufaula the
present rate of SO cents is raised to $1
30. From Bainbridge the present rate
of $1 per bale is raised to $5 per bale.
The tariff of freigets from other
points on these roads are raised corres
pondingly high. i,j. ,.
The people of Georgia can see cleaily
now, what we told them several day*
since, would be the effect of the great
Central Railroad njionoply, nndcr Mr.
Wad ley. The interest of the people arc
to be made subservient to ibe imperious
and dictaional will of the President of
the Central Road. Whether they will
Submit long to these unprincipled com
binations against their own and the
State’s interest remains to be seen. The
Legislature meets in a few days and we
trust such legislation will be enacted as
will protect the people from the unjust
shemes of these monopolists.— Chron.

Huntsville Doily Democrat contains an
article on the Air Line Railroad, in
which it is stated that Mr. Richmond
i?eters t Pres, of the Georgia Western
Road, has received a telegram from
Mr. Wicks, of the Chaileston <fe Mem
phis Railroad Company, stating that
that Company would bear its proportion
etthe_«xpence of survey of the unsurv-
eyed portion of the Alabama division
of the Road] and that Mr. Pptcre said
that jojge King, President of the
GeorgiaKoad,,.fas in Savannah, neg-
ociating with President Wadley, of the
Central Road, to get a subscription
of $250,000 from bis Ceuipapy, and he
thought it would be obtained,. _ ^.
The Board of Directors of the Georgia
RaUroadCompaiiy adeped the followityr
resolution at a meeting held December 3,
1868:
Resolved, That the President be
hereby authorized to re-afBim tbe sub
scription made by.this Company in the
year 1300 to the stock of the Georgia
Western Railroad, $250,000, aod that
it is tbe opinion of the Directors of this
Company that the graduation of the
Road to Powder Springs, distant from
Atlanta twenty-eight miles, should be
placed under contract by the 1st of Feb
ruary next, or sooner if practicable ;
thissubscription being upon the positive
condition that the city of Atlanta re
affirm her subscription of three hundred
thousand dollars to the aforesaid road.
