MILKS’ COMPOUND EXTRACT OF TOMATO —a substitute for Calomel, and does not belong to the family of quack medicines; for the reason that the component parts are made known to Die faculty, or any one else that may wish to know, by any of the agents keeping them for sale. Since this discovery so long and anx iously' looked for, some one in almost the extreme North lias advertised a Tomato Pill, purporting to be made from the stalk, a thing not more absurd than for one to offer meal from (he corn stalk, to say nothing of the difficulty of raising the 'Tomato so far North. Dr. Miles, of Cincinnati, is Die proprietor of the Tomato Pills (proper) for the great benefits of i which, be holds himself bound, and in honor plcdg- : od to prove by their use, that they arc all that they 1 profess to be, and will do for others what they have done for such as mav have used Diem; as this is a vegetable of great use, and value, it will doubtless be valuable information to families to know that the Yellow are just doubly as valuable as the Red Tomato, and produces twice as much of the bapatine, or active principle, and when used as a daily vegetable will be found to keep the sy stem in much better condition than the other kind; many will recollect with what trembling anxiety calomel has been given to children, and bow they then wished for a substitute, it has long been known Tomato contained ca thartic principles, but not until of late was it ascertained that they contained alterative and diu retic properties. The Faculty- embrace and use the preparation most cheerfully, for Die reason that they know what it is Were it a patent mystery, they would be bound to reject Die medicine, as they justly do Die one thousand and one cure-alls of the day. The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca,March 3d, 1838; Dr. Peters—Dear Sir, —By requestor your agent, Mr. Harrison, 1 send you a few lines respecting the almost iniraculouselfccts of your pil's; and 1 would a-’d, that you may make use ol them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience, as I and my family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three years; and so great are the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house without them. I will not enumerate the afflictions they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally the enemy of every disease. 1 will mention one case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grate. She was attended hy the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but all their efforts to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless; and accordingly, we all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable. Hy good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pecting every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable wore their effeqts that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet I could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which yourpills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from the jaws of death. Need 1 add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country ? But this I presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose of, I may mention, however, that notwithstanding its general use,l never heard an individual complain of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir—F'or upward" of fifteen months, I have been cruelly afflicted with Fever and Ague; and during the time could hud nothing — though I had applied to every thing that gave me any thing like permanent relief. At length, how ever, your pills were recommended to me, hy one of our best physicians, and I am most grateful and happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of my family have used them with equal success— and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this certificate, as lam anxious to add my public testi mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours, THEODORE JAMES. Augusta, Ga., Feb 10, 1839. Communication received from the eminent Dr. J. 11. Irwin of Florence, Georgia: Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir—On the night of the 11th inst.,l was called in great haste to the house of a fellow citizen, (Mr. Lee,) where I found his son laboring under a nrost alarming attack of Cynaneho Ttacnealis (Cronp) and apparently be yond the aid of remedy. By the greatest good for tune, however, I had iu my pocket a broken box of your pills—four of which i administere I, with such immediate happy effect that in a few minutes my patient was at ease, and out of danger. This case, in connection with my name ts at your ser vice—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform you that your inestimable medicine is in such great favor with the faculty here, that 1 believe there is not one of them who does not use it in his private practice. Yours most trsp’y. March 13, 1839. J. H. IRWIN, M. D. Extract from a letter written by Dr. Francis Bo gart, of Providence, R. 1., Dec. 17, 1838. —Peters’ pills arc an excellent aperient and cathartic medi cine, those effects being produced by the differences of the quantity taken, and are decidedly superior to Lee’s, Brandreth’s or Morrison’s Pills. Extract from a letter by Dr. Hopson of Bangor, Me , Jan. 9,1839. They arc a peculiarly mild, yet efficient purgative medicine, and produce little, if any, griping or nausea. Until the appearance of the “ Lucina Cor dial,' 1 (about throe years since,) il was thought that the complaints, which A speedily overcomes, were bovond the rvnehof human remedy, as for upwards of a thousand vtars. they nad baffled the wisdom and ingenuity of the most profound physicians in all pans of tho world. This Cordial, however, to the great advantage of tho human race, soon proved itself to be the desideratum so long sought for ; and accordingly, notwithstanding tl e Intel peri.d of its existence, it has required a celebrity so great, that it Is eagerly inquired for throughout the civilized globe. Dr, Magnin soon finding that the demand was so vast as to render a supply impossible, dis posed of the recipe and right of sale, under obliga tions of secrecy, fur England, the United States, and othei countries, only preserving France and Italy for himself. Thus bus the subscriber pos sessed himself of theinvaluablc secret; and now hastens to give the inhabitants of his line of agency the benefits of his speculation. “Le Cordial De Luciue,” or, in English, “the Lucira Cordial,” is a general invigorator of the human fromo! In all the various cases of languor, lassitude, and debilitation ; it is an unfailing reme dy ; as it. is equally its province to impart cheerful ness and decision to the mind, ns health and vigor to the body But the peculiar virtue on which its celehrily is based, is the facility and certainty with which it restores the virile powers when they have hern destroyed by disease.time, recklessness, orany of the numerous onuses vyhich terminate in the prostration of those functions. In common with the generality of really good medicines, ihisl ordial coni a. ns nothing of a mer] curial or deleterious nature, among t he many ingre dients which compose it; hut is, at ihesame lime, so simple, yet so efficacious, that while it can reno vate the prostrated energies of a giant, an infant, may use it,not only with impunity, but with ad vantage. The usages of society are unfortunately such, that, notwithstanding the benefits which would be sure to result from it, weeannotenter into an analy sis ol this ine-timable Cordial hero, or publish many of the documents which have been received, as vouchers of the blessings n lias conferred on num bers of dcspairingindividuals. But this wc cannot forbear remarking—that il lias been demonstrated that there is scarcely ever, it any such thing at all, ns natural barrenness, or as natural imbecility of the procreant functions, in cither sex ; and therefore, that those evils are the eflecls of artificial causes, and may be speedily subdued and removed by the use ol “ Le Cordial do Lncino.” The Lucina Cordial is also tn indubitable cure for the Gleet, and the Fluor Albus, obstructed, diffi cult, or painful Menstruation; also, for the incon tinence ol Urine,or the involuntary discharge there of It is likewise an invaluable and unrivalled medicine incases of Chronic Eruptions of thoskin, and in the dropsical affections of the aged. From tho eminent Dr. Devignoy, of October 3, 1837. To Dr. Magnin;—My dear friend—l om most gratified at l lra unprecedented popularity ol your “Lucina Cordial,” and am able to .ear testimony to its surprising virtue, 1 had a patient recently, 1 M , a gentleman ot fortune, who had lire several years abandoned himself in the vortex ot dissipation ; and was only reclaimed from it at length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener gies. He was, indeed, reduced to the last extremity of debility and t istelessness, for, if an occasional flash of excitement warmed his system, the reac tion was almost immediate, and tho result perlect prostration. I had applied oil the usual nostrums in such cases; but, as 1 had anticipated, without success ; mid when I saw the “ Lucfia Cordial” advertised, 1 must confess thalevon the great weight of your name did not gi\ e me much hope in it, at least so far as regarded the case in hand. 1 felt bound to try it,however, and was soon satisfied of its efficacy; for before a bottle was expended, my patient gavoevidencc of the returning elasticity of his system ; and lie is now, having used four bottles, as weltls over.
