The following was forwarded to Dr. Peters, by a highly respectable Planter of Wake County, No Ca,March 3d,183b: Dr. Peters —Bear Sir,- —By requestof youragent, Mr. Harrison, I send you a few lines respecting the almost miraculous effects of your piPs; and I would a-d, that you may make used them, in connection with my name, in any manner you deem proper, I speak of their merits from experience,as 1 and my family have taken upwards of thirty boxes in three years ; and so great are the benefits we have receiv ed from them in general, that I would rather pur chase them at ten dollars abox than have my house without them. 1 will not enumerate the afflictions they have relieved us of; but 1 can assure you they were many, and of very opposite natures, which has fully proved to me that your medicine is a sim ple purifier of the system, and therefore equally the enemy of every disease. I will mention one case. I have a sister who had been for a long pe riod severely afflicted with dropsy in the chest and was brought by it to the very verge of the grave, j Site was attended hy the most eminent physicians that money could procure; but all their dibits to restore her to health, or even to mitigate her suffer ings were fruitless ; and accordingly, wc all consid ered her immediate death as inevitable, tty good fortune, however, as she was in this situation, ex pect ng every day to be her last, your pills were introduced into my family, and so speedy and pal pable were their effects that three doses visibly re lieved her, and in less than three months she was perfectly restored to health. This case, I and all who were witness of it, (but more especially the suffering party,) considered to be the next thing to miraculous; and yet J could mention many more of an equally desperate nature, in which your pills were equally successful in rescuing the patients from tlie jaws of death. Need I add that the popu larity of your medicine amounts to enthusiasm in this section of the country } But this I presume you know from the immense quantity you dispose of 1 may mention, however, thatnotwithstanding its general use, I never heard an individual complain of its effects. My residence is 12 miles from Ral eigh, on the road to Fayetteville. I am, with sen timents of regard, your ob’t servant. A. G. BANKS. To Dr. Peters, —Sir —For upward' of fifteen months, 1 have been cmelly afflicted with Fever and Ague; and during the time rould hnd nothing — though 1 bad applied to every tiling that gave me any tiling like permanent relief. At length, how ever, your pills were recommended to me, by one of our best ph)sicians, and I am most grateful and happy in being able to add, that I had scarcely used two boxes when 1 found that they had restored me to perfect health. Since then, various members of my family have used them with equal success— and consequently 1 feel it my duty to apprise you of the fact, and to request of you to publish this certificate, as 1 am anxious to add my public testi mony to the almost miraculous virtues of your un rivalled medicine. Respectfully yours, THEODORE* JAMES. Augusta, Ga., Feb 10, 1839. Communication received from the eminent Dr. J. H. Irwin of Florence, Georgia: Dr. J. P. Peters —My Dear Sir —On the night of the 11th inst., 1 was called in great haste to the house of a fel ow ci.izen, (Mr. Lee,) where 1 found his son laboring under a most alarming attack of Cynanche Tracnealis (Croup) and apparently be yond the aid of remedy. This case, in connection with my name is at your ser vice—and 1 have the pleasure to be able to inform you that your inestimable medicine is in such great favor with the faculty here, that I believe there is not one of them who docs not use it in his private practice. \ ours most resp’y. Extract of a letter by Dr. Joseph Williams ol Burlington, \t , July 9, 1837. —1 cordially recom mend Peters’ Pills as a mildly effective, and in no case dangerous, family medicine. Peters was one of the best chemists in the United Stales, and felt assured that he would some day (from his intimate knowledge of the properties of herbs and drugs) produce an efficient medicine, and I must acknowledge that his Vegetable Pills fully respond to my expectations. They are indeed a superior medicine, and reflect credit alike upon the Chemist, the Physician, and the Philosopher. Extract of a letter from Dr. Waines of Cincin nati, Feb. 2, 1838.—Your Pills are the mildest in their operations, and yet most powerful in their ef fects, of any that 1 have ever met « *h in a practice of eight and twenty years Their action on the chyle, and hence on the impurities of the blood, is evidently very surprising Extract of a letter from Dr. Scott of Baltimore, Dec. 17,1836. —I am in the daily habit of prescri bing them, (Peters’ Pills) and they in nearly all cases answered ray purpose 1 have discarded other medicines, some of them very good ones, in their favor. From the eminent Dr. Devigney, of Brussels. October 3, 1837. To Dr. Magnin:—My dear friend—l am most gratified at ihe unprecedented popularity ol your “Lucina Cordial,” and am able io hear testimony to its surprising virtue 1 had a patient recently, 1 M , a gentleman oi fortune, who had for several years abandoned hiroseli in the vortex oi dissipation ; and was oniy reclaimed from il at length by the utter prostration of all his virile ener g.es. He was, indeed, reduced to Ihe last extremity * ot debility and i isteiessness, for, if an occasional flash of excitement warmed his system, the ieac- Uon was almost immediate, and the result pcrlect prostration. I had applied all the usual nostrums in such cases ; but, as I had anticipated, without success; and when I saw the “ Lucjyta Cordial” i advertised, 1 must confess that even the great weight of your name did not give me much hope in it, at least so far as regarded ihe cose in hand.
