Tne reports of ihe potato crop continue most
lavorable, and at the risk ui being charged with
frequent. repetition, 1 will stale that the panic has
nearly subsided—the disease considerably aba
ie.l—and plenty ol potatoes remain in the
country. We must be prepared to hear ol
scarcity in some districts, but supplies can tie
procured from others in which little loss will
be sustained. You will hear of extensive injury
to the crop in one parish, while the next to it
lias almost entirely escaped. Some counties
nave sintered much, others but little. In the
former, it will be found that generally a greater
breadth ol land was planted with potatoes than
the latter; hence the loss will he less acutely
iell than was at any time apprehended. The
Liberal journals received yesterday andthisday
are silent; but in the corners set apart for mar
ket reports there is sufficient evidence of the
g rati lying change that has taken place. The
following note, signed by a respectable corn
factor in Belfast appears in the Northern Whig;
Belfast., Friday. The excitement connected
wnh ihe disease in potatoes subsides, and my
advices are generally more cheering, and tend
I o confirm the hope that we have still a quantity
to break on, closely approaching to an average
stock' for the season. Our principal cause of
alarm at present is, that the disease may vet
s ho'v itself in the stock now safely housed.
h roin Carlow, Galway, Limerick, Drogheda,
and Waterford, there are equally cheering
‘market no'es,’ the best evidence that could be
adduced on the state ot the crops.
At a meeting: of the Liverick board of guar
dians on Wednesday, Air. Lloyd observed he
iiad the previous day travelled over 30 miles
ol the county, and he was enabled to say
ihe potatoedisease had nearly subsided. The
farmers were feeding their cattle and pigs on
the damaged portion, and declared they throve
well upon it.

An extraordinary express in anticipation of
the Bombay mail of October 15th reached Lon
don on the 22d ult.
It brings intelligence of the butchery by tlie
Sikh Soldiery of Jowahir Singh, the Wuzeer.
His death was the result ol a deep laid plot, and
effected in tlie most deliberate manner. One of
the sources of iheir hatred to Jowahir Singh is
stated to be a rumor, which was believed, that
he had applied for aid to toe British Govern
ment of India. It is said, that this atrocity com
mitted by the Sikh soldiers, is calculated to have
some influence on the decision of the Governor
general, who was to have reached Agra on the
•20th of October.
The news from Scinde comes down to the

on the 10:h of October, anil nothing was said of
his going towards the Sikh frontiers, or to meet
the Governor-general. The state of the Nizam’s
dominions was beginning to excite alarm.—
Some instructions for the amelioration of the
administration of the revenue had been sent by
/he Governor-general, which will, if rejected,
be in all likelihood enforced by any array. The
Nizam’s troops have not been paid for sixteen
months. Burmah is likely to be productive of
otne remarkable events within a short time, in
consequence of Tharawaddle’s wishing to name
a favorite successor. His other sons object to
the arrangement, the duel opponent is the

but he would not attend his father’s court. —
Tharawaddie asked for one ofhis own chiefs,
named Woon, lately governor of Rangoon, and,
upon that chief’s appearance, Tharawad lie
accused him of having visited the Prince of
Prome, and then speared him to death. The
Prince of Proms assembled forces, and prepar

whom he suspected to be executed. Amongst
the deaths may he mentioned that ofSchnh

Madrid , Nor. 28-—The revolt at Valencia
has been suppressed, and, as usual in snch
cases, some persons implicated in it have been
shot. The General commanding the town
having had some dispute with the political

ment has refused to accept it.
The settlement of the debt of 1,950.000,000

Fresh revolts appear to be anticipated »n
Catalonia.
The election at Barcelona was going on at
the dale of last advices, and thepofular party
are represented as likely to triumph, which will,
no doubt, prevent disturbances. It is stated,
that should Ministers be defeated upon the first
trial of strength for the President, they will dis
solve the Cortes. At Cadiz, the iVloderado
candidate has been returned by a majority of

A fortnight had been nearly occupied in dis
cussion in the Chambers of the answer to the
King’s speech. The Senate passed the address
unanimously, but in the Representatives there
was a division on an amendment proposed h}'
the Minister of Ihe Interior. The King replied,
but the answers contained nothing remarkable.
The treaty with the United States had not

Liverpool Colton Market.
Liverpool, December 3.
If yotl for tin: meek ending November 21.-
The market has relapsed into the same depressed
state from which it had apparently recovered last
week, and the slight improvement in prices then
obtained has been lost again. The increased value
of money, and the prospect of an early import,
have more than counteracted any effects which
•night have been anticipated from the hostile ten
dency of the intelligence from the United States.
Egyptian continues to be pressed upon the market,
“nd the decline of per lb. which had been only
initial, is now sufficiently general to justify the
le duclion made this week in the quotations.—
peculators have taken 3000 bales American. The
‘■airs of the week amount to 15,540 bales.
Deport for the wre/e ending Nor . 28. —The mar
ket ins been, throughout the week, pressed ky
anxious sellers of nearly all descriptions. This
st ate of things lias been generally attributed to
the increased value of money, and Ihe necessity
**' meeting engagements of a financial nature; and
'herecan be no doubt that the narrowed facilities
101 holding cotton have been abundantly in ex
‘Aence to urge on the sellers; and, from the same '
A-auae, to repress the enterprise of the specula- i
t tive buyers, as well as abridge the purchases of
i tne consumers. Probably, had we been relieved
s from this cause of depression, the t übject of Oregon,
- and the dispute which may arise out of that unset
e Hcd question, would have been more felt in our
( transactions :as it is, the speculative demand found
-0 ed thereupon, and which existed to a fair extent
1 last week, has been gradually dying away, and we
, dose our proceedings and weekly report with a re
t duction of Jd per lb, from the quotations of Friday
last. The current rate of ‘ fair’ quality of Ameri
* can will now stand only |d per lb. higher than the
lowest rate in any previous period. 12,500 Atneri
-1 cars have been taken on speculation. The Boston
1 steamer of the !6th inst. is now off. The sales of
< the week amount to 37,870 bales.
Report of the Cotton Market, December 3.
>’ To-day we have had a fair demand from the
- trade, and about 4000 to 5000 bales have been
; sold—previously this week there has been less
3 done—as Ihe buyers have an abundant choice of
i quality The market being well supplied with
. nearly all descriptions, prices are lower than
j Friday last, and this applies to all sorts offered for
r sale. The sales from the 28th ult. till the 3d inst.
j inclusive, amount to 12,500 bales.
