B. 1_. Waller and Dr. Robert
Waller, joint owners of large
farm at Mauk, are in process
of installing what might be
termed, "1962 Model Terracing
and Water Disposal System"
on 114 acre field of thier farm.
Cooperators with Ocmulgee
Soil Conservation District, they
have utilized assistance from
Agricultural Conservation Pro
gram to leve portions of field,
construct parallel terraces,
grade, shape and plant vegetated
type waterways.
Dean, SCS technician, and
Waller both agree that 1962
Model Water Disposal System
advantages are as follows: It
fits the field; vegetated water
ways are in every natural draw;
terraces carry water from
ridge to draw. The terracing
system is designed to facili
tate mechanized farming, par
allel terraces, eliminating
short rows, gives longer rows
as operator simply raises plows
and crosses outlet. It, also,
saves on fuel, time and less
wear and tear on machinery.
This system will handle excess
rainfall more efficiently; carry
water in direction it would go

tance to move the water.
Waller has planted and culti
vated this field with two-row
tractor equipment this year.
Grassed waterways are now
carrying off excess rain water.
When the entire field is com
pleted, he expects considerably
less soil loss and control of
finger erosion which will re
duce the amount of run-off water
going into several large gullies
that surround part of field.
Accidents on
Rural Highways
U. S. traffic accidents claim
ed 38,000 lives in 1962. More
than three-fourths of these fa
talities occurred on rural roads
and highways, according to Na
tional Safety Council.
J. R. Whiddon, pastor
Reynolds Baptist Church
You have probably heard a-
bout the two prominent laymen
who were fishing one Sunday
morning when one of them re
marked, about morning worship
time, that his conscience was
bothering him. The other said
that his conscience didn’t bother
him a bit because if he were
at home he could not attend
church because his wife was
sick.
It always seems that when
summer comes around each
year our church loyalty goes
through a trial by fire. It seems
increasingly easier to sleep a
little later, then seek out some
place of recreation.
The Bible compares the
church and its relationship to
Christ to that of husband and
wife.Our devotion to our church
ought to be as constant and
abiding as our devotion to our
marriage partner.
What woman would be will
ing to accept a proposal of
marriage to a man to be faith
ful to her except on hot days?
What man would be willing to
let his wife off from their
marriage vows once in a while
because she had been loyal the
rest of the time? This truly
sounds silly but we expect God
to accept this kind of reason
ing uoin ua and be happy with
it.
Moose Lodge
Reports Progress
BY RICHARD PARKS
The Butler-Reynolds Moose
Lodge #1869 was granted a
charter on April 1, 1962. From
the 74 charter members, the
following officers were appoint
ed: Gann Nelson, governor; C.
J. Wright, junior past governor;
Ralph Underwood, junior gover
nor; Sonny Edwards, secretary;
Richard Parks, treasurer;
Wayne Hill, prelate; Cecil
Gaultney, sergeant- at-arms;
Tom Bone, outer guard; Bill
P atterson, inner guard and J im-
my Smith, trustee.
The Loyal Order of the
Moose, consisting of more than
1900 Lodges in the U. S., Can
ada and Great Britain, is a
non-sectarian and nonpolitical
organization, having its inter
national headquarters at Moo-
'se heart and Moosehaven. Moo-
seheart is located near Chicago.
It was founded in 1913 and was
established to provide a home
for dependent children of de
ceased members of the Order.
It is a completely self-contain
ed community known through
out the world as "The Child
City.”
Moosehaven is located in
Florida. It was founded in 1922
to provide a home for dependent
aged members of the Order and
their wives. It is a community
of residences, a hospital, a farm
and other buildings necessary
for the comfort of these older

ly deserves your support.
We have just recently ac

us in our charitable under

Bed Springs
Consider replacing the bed
spring when you purchase anew
mattress, suggests Miss Doris
Oglesby, Extension home im
provement specialist. Chances
are the bed spring is as old
as the mattress to be replaced.
If the spring is not replaced,
too, the new mattress won’t
be completely satisfactory. The
spring supplies about one-third
the total resiliency of bedding
when used with an innerspring
mattress and about two-thirds
when used with a solid type
mattress, she says.
Select gilts from litters of
uniformity with three pounds or
more average birth weight, says
Extension Animal Husbandman
James A. Christian.

Farmers own 58 percent of
Georgia’s private forest land.
The average Georgia farm is
52 percent woodland, according
to Extension foresters.
Some of the excuses that a
minister hears must certainly
bring a tear to the eye of the
Lord. People say they work
hard six days and Sunday is
the only day they have for them
selves. The Bible says thatGod
gave you six days and asked
for only one for himself.
They say,"I just didn’t feel
like attending." My former
pastor used to say, "Who ever
said you had to feel like a
million dollars to come to
church? When you feel out of
sorts, that’s when you need to
come.”
They say they don’t insist
that their children attend be
cause they are afraid it will
warp them. I wonder if they
would apply that same reason
ing to their educational train
ing? Which is really more im
portant in the long run?
Some one has said that an
excuse is the skin of reason
stuffed with a lie. This is what
we offer God for not being
loyal to the institution founded
on His Son.
In our day the manufacturers
of tranquilizers are becoming
wealthy because of our tensions.
Doctors tell us that most of
this tension is caused from
guilt.
This is an age of disobed
ience of God’s laws and the
fracturing of the laws of the
land and the whole country is
guilt ridden because of it. I
don’t for a minute think that
habitual church attendance is
the cure all but it certainly
is a good start.
Let’s all try it out next Sun
day. See you in church.
Congratulations
