Brother Whiddon’s pen wrote
too well last week to let that
matter end at that point. With
his consent, and that of the
editor, let us take up where his
pen gave out of ink last week,
therefore.
There simply is no better
starting point for righteous liv
ing than habitual church attend
ance. Mankind is neither spiri
tual nor law abiding of himself.
Both of those qualities must be
learned, but in order to be
learned, they must be taught.
Mankind is initially a creature
of the earth, but he can become
a creature of the heavens if he
will let himself move in that
direction.
It is just this point at which
we begin when we speak of a
person becoming converted.
Parents neglect an awesome re
sponsibility when they fail to
take with them to worship the
children whom God has lent
them for a brief space of years.
A preacher in the present day
who with all humility claims
nothing for himself than that he
is a sinner saved by grace re
marked that he had nomore re
ligion that the habit of attend
ing church when he left home to
to start to college. But with
that start, he came to conver
sion in his third year and
changed the entire direction of
his life, all under the guidance
of God. Yet without that habit
at which to begin who can say
that he would have been with
in reach when God did call to
him?
The chances are terribly
against your being converted at
the movie house, at the swimm
ing pool, the golf course, the
river bank, or anywhere outside
the Mouse of Worship - what
ever be its name. This is not
even to say that the chances
are greatly in favor of your
being converted at church -
whatever be its name. Nu
merous things can interfere
there and keep you from letting
God come into your life. But
there is likely to be less in
terference at church than any-
wher else that you may spend
your time. The atmosphere at
church is more in your favor
than against you.
A minister who served some’
years in the U. S. Army and
became right well acquainted
with the men in his own regiment
noticed this hard fact: The men
whom he got to know best by
reason of their attendance at the
services of worship, even the
men whom he got to know by
sight only because of their at
tendance at worship were never
the men whom he saw when he
was asked to preach at odd
times at the military stockade.
It came through to him one day
that those men who know what
the inside of a chapel looked
like were seldom aware of the
inside description of the stock
ade. Even if theirs were no
more than an habitual attend
ance, it served them in good
stead none-the-less in helping
them to keep on an even keel
enough to keep out of the stock
ade.
Let us then speak a work in
favor of habitual attendance at
the church of your choice -
again, whatever be its name.
If people do not acquire good
habits, they will acquire bad
habits. Thus, as work must
be said for good habits.
Still a word of warning must
be sounded: this habit is spoken
of as a starting point - not
the end of the journey. The
next and next steps after it
are to participate in the wor
ship of God, to experience with
your fellow creatures the "balm
in Gilead" which is the feeling
that God is with you, and to do
your part to live in such a way
that God need not be ashamed
when He sees you.
Where you are on Sunday
morning, and on Sunday evening,
does make a difference in your
life, in the life of your com
munity, and in the life of the
church of your preference - no
matter who you are. God will
be found by those who seek Him,
then! Try tills item in your life-
you might midgets known as
Mankind.

When the Rural Electrics were organized, millions
of Americans depended upon the oil lamp, the
spring house, and the pump handle . . . Nowadays,
many youngsters can give you an informed descrip
tion of the launching of a space capsule — and oil
lamps are rarely seen! . . . Twenty five years of
progress. ...
Compare rural America 'day with that of a gen
eration ago. Electric co-ops supply the ever grow
ing demand for electricity by their Member-Owners
- - farmers, city workers living in the country, rural
businesses and industry - - on an area coverage
basis at as low a cost as possible . . . they work to
strengthen and expand the economic opportunities
in areas they serve . . . their Members piake \ip 3
billion dollar market for the products oi American
industry . . . and the nation’s dinner tables reflect
the benefits of abundant low-cost electricity on the
farms ...
Electric co-ops are private enterprise, with a
“built-in” public conscience . . . ready, willing, and
able to meet the challenge of their second quarter
century.

Harvest time makes a man think.
The bread God gives us has to be cut, threshed, shipped, baked, wrapped
and delivered before it ever reaches our mouths. And long before, it had to be
sowed in a ploughed field, cultivated, irrigated, and fretted over a thousand times.
Lots of work in it for man. No gift wrapping with a ribbon around it.
But don’t think we could get along without God! Leave out His part and
there would be no harvest — no point in all our work.
So wheat inspires worship! And every Sunday in Church reminds us that
we never labor alone . . . that our labors gain fruitfulness from God.

THE CHURCH FOR ALL . . . ALL FOR THE CHURCH
The Church is the greatest factor on
earth for the building of character and
good citizenship. It is a storehouse of
spiritual values. Without a strong
Church, neither democracy nor civili
zation can survive. There arc four
sound reasons why every person should
attend services regularly and support
the Church. I hey are: (I) For his
own sake. (2) For his children's sake.
(3) For the sake of his community
and nation. (4) For the sake of the
Church itself, which needs his moral
and material support. Plan to go to
church regularly and read your Bible
daily.
