Today, many people do not know the real significance of Christ mas. I has become so commercialized in the past years that our younger generation have never learned that Christmas is for Christ. They will never know either if our adults continue to teach Santa Claus and not Christ at Christmas. What really makes a Christ-like Christmas in an American home? Let's tour a few of the average homes in America today and see if your home finds a place in one of the classifications. First, there are people that actually hate Christmas, These people do not know that Christmas is for Christ. As we enter their home we find a fewChristmas gifts. There are no Christmas decorations and no Christmas tree. The family dreads the thought of buying gifts for Mary and Tom. Christmas is just another day in their house. Secondly, we enter a home that is beautifully decorated. The Christmas tree is surrounded by gifts. Santa Claus is expected to bring bicycles, guns, balls, trains, and anything a child would want. This home did know the meaning of Christmas but com mercial values have destroyed their love for Christ. The children are not thankful for their gifts. They wonder why all of their wishes were not fulfilled. Third, there is that home that really presents a happy Christ mas feeling. There is aChristtnas tree in the window with several gifts around the tree. Santa Claus is expected soon to bring one or two nice gifts for the kids, just enough to make them really thankful and happy. Gifts are sent only to children of families that will have no Christmas. This family has a deep love for Christ and think of others at Christmas. Fourth, we find another home that presents aChrist-like Christ mas. These people are not financially able to spend money on Christmas decorations, gifts and all the Christmas trimmings. They enjoy Christmas together and worship Christ and-not Santa Claus at Christmas. Gifts are not important to this family even if they were able to buy them. Let’s change our homes at Christmas throughout this yule- tide season. Give to those that need, help those that are weary, and above all, thank God for sending His Son on that Christmas Day. And so on thisChristmas, may we all hear the song of the angels in our hearts, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.” ANNOUNCEMENT Webb Eye Clinic EVERY VISION SERVICE AT ONE OFFICE, IN CLUDING COMPLETE EYE EXAMINATION, PRE SCRIBING AND FITTING CONTACT LENSES. Phone UN 2-3195 'THE FAMILY FRATERNITY" Hobbs Announce New Postal'Rate Reminding area citizens of the forthcoming new postal rate structure effective January 7, the Postmaster listed these highlights of the rate legisla tion enacted recently by Con gress. The increase over which the "man in the street" is most concerned is the one-cent hike in letter rates. First class mail: surface - letters, five cents an ounce; postal and post cards, six postal and post cards, four cents. Air: letters, eight cents; post cards, six cents. Included in the "first class" category is the so-called “drop letter." The rate will go from chree cents to four cents an ounce. Postal regulations designate this type of mail as letters "dropped" at a post of fice by the sender and picked up by the addressee at the same post office. It is used mostly by patrons in rural areas where mail delivery service is not available and mail .is picked up at the post office. Often thought of by the user as "first class" but actually in "third class" category are “greeting cards." Used mostly at Christmas time, this type of mail will cost four cents when the new rates become ef fective January 7. pnn Walker, a forward on the basketball team, is a 14 year old freshman at Butler. He likes to fish, to swim and to play the piano, but his favorite hobby is to work with his radio set. He is a member of the 4-H. Phil plans to attend college to study to be an elec tronics engineer. Butier Baptist Family Night Held Wednesday The members of the Butler Baptist Church held their an nual family night at Christmas on Wednesday at the Commu nity House. In remembering the true meaning of Christmas and attempting to help the little ones enjoy the spirit and love of giving rather than receiving, the group had a White Christ mas. After a buffet style dinner, the children were asked to bring their gifts and place them under the tree to be given to others. In addition, clothing and food was added to the pro ject. Rev. Walter R. Evans gave the Christmas devotional and the group enjoyed singing carols. CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE TO PRESENT DRAMA A Biblical drama, "Glory to God," will be presented at the Church of the Nazarene on Sun day night, December 23, at 7:30. “Glory to God" depicts the story of some of the events of the Christmas story. It presents the expectation of the people for the coming of the Messiah. The greed of the innkeeper and his refusal to provide a place for Mary and Joseph is presented vividly. His chief purpose was to make money, and therefore he refused the couple a place because they were far beneath the scale by which he measured men. How ever, he realizes his sin and does repent. Larry Almgren plays the part of the innkeeper, and Sharon Bohler is the inn keeper's wife. Other members of the cast are Ben Neisler, a Bethlehem merchant; and Christine Neis ler, the merchant’s wife. Their sons, Phil Walker and Sammy Almgren, are the two shep herds. Roy Bohler portrays the part of an old man who has little faith in the people of his day. The Angel is Virginia Blakely. The public is cordially in vited to attend this presenta tion of the Christmas story. College Students Entertained At Butler High Former students of the But ler High School, now attending college, were invited to be guests of the school on Wednes day for lunch and to discuss problems and solutions that they face in their respective schools. The purpose of the meeting was to determine if the curriculum offered the students is adequate to meet the needs of the average student who leaves the high school and enters college. The group met with the prin cipal and guidance counselor to suggest ways and means of improving the curriculum to fill any gaps they had found in their high school education that might help others graduating from the school and attending colleges. Approximately 30of the visit ing college students attended the meeting. “Deck the Halls” Expressing the merriment of Christmas, "Deck the Hall with Boughs of Holly” is an English carol set to an old Welsh air. It refers to such ancient traditions as the “blazing Yule” log.
