The Taylor County News, April 16, 2020, Page 2. va Lori's views This column is by request of my grandmother, Mam. I have to tell you, the picture is certainly NOT part of her request, so Tm probably going to be in trouble. But, it's okay I wanted you to see how precious my Mam is, and being in trouble with Mam is not so bad! She’s easygoing, slow to anger, and just too sweet to be mean or scary! Last week, the Faith Over Fear crosses movement caught on fire, and crosses are appearing in yards everywhere! So, Todd decided to make us some crosses. He is a plumber, so it was “fitting” that he constructed our crosses from PVC pipe, and 1 think they look great! We were all pretty impressed with Todd's crosses, but nobody was quite as impressed as Mam! When he put the cross up in her yard...well, youVe just never seen anybody any happier. She had a huge smile spread across her face, and tears flowing down her cheeks. She was truly speechless and very proud of her cross, Todd is one of those who does things, but doesn’t want any credit for doing them, so be was wandering around acting like be didn’t do anything. Well, he did something huge. He made Mam extremely happy, which, in turn, made all of us happy] We are blessed people! We are thankful for our crosses and especially for what the crosses represent: our risen Savior and to trust Him, have faith, and don't fear! Faith is stronger than fear, and in these difficult times, its great to know we have a Savior who loves us! Faith Over Fear, good folks! We are going to be just fine! valrn Moore To The L-lght B-y Bob wade Easter 2020 Many Georgians, including those of us on The Place, on Easter sheltered-in-place complying with Governor Brian Kemp's order to avoid gathering in groups of 10 or more people. We hoped to retard the spread of Covid-19 there fore we celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ not at church but at home. There would have been more than 10 devoted Christians at Bethel Church for Sunday's sunrise and again at the 11:00 o'clock morning services had it not been for that edict. With our advanced state of electronic communications, we nonetheless received Pastor Bentley's sermon electroni cally. That was amazing! Voluntary quarantine is not a new phenomenon. Considering America's education system has pretty much abandoned the teaching of history substituting instead teaching victimology and VokeisnT there is little knowl edge of the past. History teaches us that pandemics are rather common medical events. This pundit recalls reading an eyewitness’s recollections of the 1855 yellow fever pandemic. That Mississippi resi dent wrote that people quarantined themselves in their homes at the appearance of yellow fever, {a mosquito-borne disease). Local governments employed men that daily dug graves in cemeteries and operated wagons on fixed routes to collect dead bodies from homes and deliver them to the vacant burial chambers. Because no one knew how the vi rus spread, funerals for the dead were mostly unceremo nious events where the gravediggers simply placed the bodies in the waiting holes and covered the dead with dirt. That Mississippian told that she lived outside town in a two-story house. The father and son isolated themselves on the top story when the fever appeared. The asymptom atic mother and other children occupied the ground floor in quarantine. Her brother died at night. The next day, her father though terribly ill llagged the driver down when the wagon col lecting the dead approached the house. The teamster di rected the mule-drawn wagon near and below the window. The feverish father using sheets tied round his lifeless son lowered the body to the collector. Following the 1878 pandemic, in December, Congress in vestigated that outbreak. One of the seven expert investi gators involved in the inquiry was Dr. M.S. Craft of Jack- son, Mississippi. As part of his report, he noted that in 1855, he wrote the virus was “a mystery in nature”. He also satirically wrote that at the time, ‘‘yellow fever never originates, but is always brought from somewhere else.” Those statements remain unchanged even today. The COVTD-19 virus originated in Wuhan, China and ac cording to Newsweek, The first patient to show symptoms of what would later be identified as the new coronavirus, known as COVID-19, presented themselves on December 8, according to Chinese officials..,Ai Fen, a doctor from Wuhan, told Chinas People magazine in an interview for the title's March edition that authorities had tried to sup press her early warnings about COVID-19 in December.” Because of jet airplane travel, the virus on Easter Day is prevalent on every continent of planet Earth except Ant arctica! Our federal, state, and local government responses are unprecedented and draconian in many ways. Mayors and governors ordered the closures of restaurants, bars, the aters, and even houses of worship; President Trump with an abundance of caution ordered business closures with the promise of federal cash to maintain those entities vi ability Congress hastily approved the flooding of the coun try with dollars although nobody's actually seen any of it. [a neighbor said his second cousin once removed on his mama's side said while he risked his life to attend a vital business (a liquor store) he heard a man on the opposite isle say he got his]. America's economy teeters on the brink of collapse. Our enemies foreign and domestic are contem plating striking us. Our political machines are gearing up vicious fall campaigns. This pundit recalled the Swine Flu pandemic of 1976. The federal government reacted wildly to that threat. It frantically rushed to immunize us all. Congress appropri ated $135 jnillion ($569,440,778 today) to develop a vac cine and immunize the entire nation. President Gerald Ford received his immunization to quell the nation’s anxi ety about the serum on live TV. The anticipated pandemic failed to materialize thus on December 16, 1976 the fed eral government suspended swine flu immunizations. This writer hopes the state and federal governments' ac tions; cancelling Easter and disrupting our economy are not a similar hullabaloo: But, one thing is certain, on Eas ter at The Place we celebrated the resurrection of our sav ior, Jesus Christ! Lessons In My Backyard By Billy Powell Our house sits in the middle of a wooded tract. Some times I sit at the edge of our garage to watch the birds. On this particular day, a bluebird couple was making a nest inside a bird house given me by Tom Curry, my good friend from Hawkinsville, Tom was quite a bluebird enthusiast and installed birdhouses atop posts throughout his prop erty. On that day the two birds were flitting hack and forth, bringing straw to build a nest for their coming family. Af ter the little birds are born, their mother will bring worms for them to eat, gently placing sections of a worn inside their beaks. Contrarilv, humans get their food by raising it on their farms or going to a grocery store and buying it, but birds, being totally dependent, have no such provisions. I am reminded that Jesus said, “Look at the birds in the sky! They don’t plant or harvest. They don't even store grain in barns. Yet your Father in heaven feeds them.” The Coronavirus has shown us (no, the whole world) how fragile our lives really are and how much we depend upon God for sustaining our very lives. At a time when the en tire world was moving away from God, He has reestab lished the fact that He is totally in charge and upon Him we owe our very existence including the food we eat and the water we drink. While watching the birds, I spied a small lizard racing across the driveway. He looked like a miniature dinosaur. I immediately thought of Darwin’s theory of Evolution that would say the lizard was a throwback to the ancient dino saurs that once walked the planet. If you trace the Dar winian interpretation back to the original creature, its adherents can only say that “life just happened’-that one day, an inert mass became a living organism. This one- cel led creation evolved into a fish and one day took on legs and walked up on the seashore. It later transitioned into an animal, and from the progression of animals came man eons later. I have a statue on my desk of a monkey looking quizzically at a human skull held in his hands. It reminds me of the proverbial question: What came first, the chicken or the egg? As for me and my house, we believe the first verse of the Bible which states: In the beginning, God created the heav ens and the earth* A little further on, we read that God made the first man, Adam, from the dust of the earth and breathed life into his nostrils. From Adam's rib, God made Eve. To Darwin’s Theory of Evolution, I say “balderdash. 7 ' Subscribe to The Taylor County New#. • $25.00/year for Taylor and adjacent counties • $3 5.00/year all others.
