TCMS Softball Team Finishes As Region Runner-Up
On Tuesday, October 12th, the Taylor County Middle School Lady Vikings Softball Team took on the Marion County
Lady Eagles for the Region Championship. The game ended after 8 innings, with a score of 4-3, Marion Co. If you were

Taylor County School System’s 2021 4-
Year Cohort Graduation Rate Is 85.45%
The Taylor County School
System has performed well this
year in regards to its 4-year
cohort graduation rate for the
year 2021. The Taylor County
School System's 4-year cohort
graduation rate for the year
2021 is 85.45% and exceeds the
state cohort graduation rate of
83,7%.
The State of Georgia, as re
quired by federal law, calcu
lates a four-year cohort gradu
ation rate. The cohort group is
formed from the beginning of
ninth grade, and the adjusted
cohort graduation rate is the
number of students who gradu
ate in four years with a regu
lar high school diploma divided
by the number of students who
form the adjusted cohort for the
graduating class.
The Taylor County News Calendar Girl for October is
Hannah Youngblood. Hannah is a senior at Taylor County
High School, where she is Beta Club President and Stu
dent Council Treasurer, She was the Student Council Re
porter her junior year. She is also a member of Key Club.
Following graduation, she plans to attend the University
of North Georgia to study Education, then further her edu
cation at Augusta University to become an Occupational
Therapist. Her ultimate goal is to work with children in
Georgia's Babies Cant Wait Program. She is a member of
Bethel Congregational Methodist Church. Hannah is the
daughter of Halton and Amber YoungbloodI. Her siblings
are Natalie, Jayden, and An sleigh Youngblood. She is the
granddaughter of Marty and Cindy Evans ofMauk, Maiy
Youngblood of Butler, and the late Danny Youngblood. The
Calendar Girl is a monthly feature of Taylor County High
School and The Taylor County News. Calendar Girls are
chosen based on academics, extracurricular activities, per
sonality, and character.
Taylor Made Fall Festival Is Saturday, Nov. 6 th
On Saturday, Nov. 6th, the
Taylor County Recreation De
partment will be the place to be,
as the Taylor Made Fall Festi
val by the Taylor County Cham
ber of Commerce returns for a
day of excitement and fun!
Admission is free, and the day
Daylight Saving Time
Ends Sunday, Nov. 7 th
begins at 9 a,m, with a Reynolds
Ramblers Bike Ride. Live en
tertainment will begin at 10
a.m, and will feature the Per
formance Academy, Ties
Hombres Band, Ken Mobley,
Freestone Band, TCI IS Band,
Tim Davis Chainsaw Carver,
and Southern Pride Cinggers.
Hot Air Balloons and Night
Glow, featuring tethered rides,
will be from 5-8 p.m., weather
permitting.
There will also be many con
tests, including Sand Sculpture
($200 first place, $150 second
place, $100 third place), Pig Call
($50 first place, trophies second/
third places), Scarecrow ($150
first place, $75 second place, $50
third place), Kid's Tractor Pull
(participation trophies), and
R.C. Race ($25 first place, tro
phies second/third places),
A parade will be held at 1:30
p.m., with a first place prize of
$200, and all day events include
arts, crafts, and food vendors, an
antique tractor show, bouncy
houses and inflatables, bungee
jump, rock wall, and kid zone,
kids sandbox, kids pan for gold,
pig kissing both and petting zoo,
dress a scarecrow, classic car
and truck show, and children’s
soft play area and puppet play
area.

Single Vehicle Crash Claims
Life Of Thomaston Man
According to Taylor County
Coro nor Gary Low r e, early Sun
day morning, Oct. 24th, just af
ter midnight, Taylor County
EMS was dispatched to a mo
tor vehicle crash on Thomas
Road, just north of Reynolds.
When EMS arrived, they
found two patients w r ho were
ejected from a pickup truck,
driven by Rodney Thomas of
Thomaston, GA.
Mr. Thomas was traveling
veest on Thomas Road, when he
lost control of the vehicle and
hit a culvert on the south side
of the road. The truck over
turned.
Mr. Thomas was pronounced
dead at the scene. An 11 year
old male was airlifted to Ma
con, then transferred to a hos
pital in Atlanta. A third patient
had minor injuries and went by
car to a hospital in Macon.

Payton Newcomb has been named The Taylor County News
Calendar Guy for October. Payton is a senior at Taylor
County High School, where has been an Honor Roll stu
dent throughout his high school career* Following gradua
tion, Payton plans to attend The University of Georgia and
eventually become an anesthesiologist He attends First
Baptist Church of Reynolds, Payton is the son ofShawn
Newcomb of Butler. He has an older brother; Tyler
Newcomb. His grandparents are the late Thomas and
Pamela Flanery of Maryland. The Calendar Guy is a
monthly feature of The Taylor County News and Taylor
County High School. Calendar Guys are chosen based on
academics, extracurricular activities, personality, and char
acter.
