Mrs. Mattie Bell and charming
daughter, Miss Katie Lon, of Senoia,
spent part of- the holidays here, to the
delight of their many friends.
Mr. John Hurrison. .ir , returned to
his home in South Georgia Monday,
after spending the past week with his
parents.
Mr. and Mrs. \V. H. Coppedge, of
Atlanta, returned home Sunday after
noon, after visiting the former's par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Oopp dge.

Messrs. Emmett Bell, Iliuton Kainey

Little Mamie Filts. who has been
visiting her grandmother, has returned
to her home at Greenville. She was ac
companied home by her uncle, Walter
Elder.
Louis Mitchell has been spending
most of the Christmas with home folks

family Christmas dinner Sunday, 28th,
at which all of their children were

Columbus, are the guests of Mrs. M A.

Miss Minnie Banks, of Griffin, is

Messers Harvey and Graves Kenney

Miss Bell l’ouud, of Woodbury, who
has the school at Oakland, closed her
school on the 24th with some very beau
tiful exercises and a Christmas tree.
Dr. E. O. Thrash made a very flue ad
dress on the first Christmas.
Mrs. M. E. Battles, the music teacher
in the Woodbury high school; Miss
Minnie Davis, Miss Janie Pound, Miss
Elthreldra Protho, all of Woodbury,
furnished music on the organ: Mr.
Clarence Smith, of Woodbury, fur
nished music on the violin ; the exerci
zes were well carried out on the chil
dren’s part, which ppeaks well tor Miss
Bell. The music was of the highest
talent.
December the 25th, at 10 o’clock a. in
the annual prayer meeting ot Oakland
church was called to order by singing
that good old song, ‘‘l Cove Thy King
dom, Lord,” after which Bro G. J.
Keith, wh j was appointed uue year ago
to conduct the meeting, read fiom the
sooond chapter of Luke, beginning
with the eighth verse, “Good news
made known to the Shepherds,’’ and
made sojjo very point*(Premarks in nis
splendid wik. He was followed by Bro.
H. i’. Spraggius, in a few heart-felt re-'
marks and prayer. After singing that
good old song "l am going home to die
no more,” Bro. Joe Todd made a short
talk and prayed. He was followed by
Bro. J. D. Htrozier in prayer, after'
which Bro. M. T. Oroueh made a shmt
talk aud prayed Bro. Dave Estes fol
lowed Bro. Oronch in solue very touch
ing word* in.- legard to his wife’s suf
ferings and afflictions that she has
gone through this year. May her af
flictions, which are only for a time,
prove for her a far exceeding weight of
glory. Bro. Estes was followed by
Bro. H. G. Sitten in a good talk. Old
Bro. H. G. Clark made the closing
talk. Bro. Clark is 86 years old and
nas been a member of the same church
62 years. Bro. J. D Strozier was ap
pointed to conduct the meeting in 19)3.
After this the congregation joined in
singing “God he with you ’till we meet
again.” While the congregation wus
smaller ihan it was last year, yet we
had a good meeting and the order out
side around the stores was the best yet.
Oh, how the men and women are sow
ing the gospel seed. May they 6priug
up in good soil.

eagles. Most all of our friends in our
territory have settled up and got a year
in advance; only one or two that has
refused to pay up and only one has re

hope to put iu some good work for Jan
uary if the weather is not too bad.
Christmas passed-, off very qniet in
this part. We have heard but very
little swearing and for ourself we have
had one of the happiest Christmas’ ot
thirty-nine aud as we enter upon the
new year we enter with the hope that
1903, if we are spared to see, will be a
year spent in more uses ulness towards
our fellow-man. Now we hope that
each correspondent will strive to make
the association year one of the grandes*,
and we can do this by writing such
things as will be towards the advance
ment of every good cause, fiuancialiy
and spiritually.
We were sorry to see that so few cor
respondents took a part in the edi
tor’s Christmas present.
We were wrongly informed in re
gards to Mr. Virgil Moore and Miss
Evaps. Their marriage took place the
3Cth instead of the 21st.
