The Burke County Commis
sioners are still debating the
future locations of unmanned
garbage convenience centers.
There are tentative plans for
three sites thus far, including
Sardis, Clark Place Road and
either in Keysville or on Dyes
Crossroads. However, the
county is still contemplating
strategic locations and consid
ering two fire stations as sites.
Fences and gates will secure the
future bulk sites, said County
Manager Merv Waldrop.
For now, the current dumpster
sites will remain until several

has started Brick By Brick, a
nonprofit entity geared toward
empowering men to make a
difference in their homes, com
munities and churches by pro
moting and encouraging them
to become more involved in
personal and collective growth.
“We are establishing a founda
tion for men to begin to grow
and cultivate individually as
well as collectively,” Johnson
said. “We are continuing to
support each other and to hold
each other accountable and
inspiring each other to grow.”
The nonprofit offers peer
coaching and counseling.
Johnson is currently working
with schools and communities
in South Carolina to mentor
boys and men in achieving
their potentials. Johnson also
has plans to expand the men
toring and community-oriented
outreach to his hometown.
“We believe that with God be
ing the foundation that Brick
By Brick will assist in building
better homes and communities
and improved church fellow
ship,” he said. “I am working
with Burke County leaders on
scheduling future events.”

The Youth Leadership in Ac
tion programming kicks off
September 26, according to
Archway Professional Aaron
Redmond.
Twenty-five high school stu
dents will meet for leadership,
conflict resolution and com
munity engagement training
during the Fall and Spring
semesters. The program is
a collaboration with Family
Connections, the Superinten
dent’s Student Advisory Board
and Waynesboro Youth Lead
ership Council, he said.
University of Georgia engi
neering students will also come
to Burke County this fall for
a project involving Ellison
Bridge on Brier Creek. The
students will develop a concept
plan to improve the area.

Mobilize Recovery Across Georgia
Drug overdose deaths in the State of Georgia increased by 55.9%, from 2019 to 2021 largely due to the continued rise of
opioid overdoses. More than 800,000 Georgians are living in long-term recovery from a substance use disorder. In response,
The Clinton Foundation’s Overdose Response Network launched Mobilize Recovery Across Georgia this month. The initiative
includes a travelling bus tour that will cross the state during National Recovery Month. Mobilize Recovery Across Georgia is
designed to bring Georgians together to celebrate recovery, educate individuals on harm reduction and recovery resources
and connect members of the community. The touring bus made a stop in Waynesboro Wednesday, September 13.
