II Wilspn of our city .was examined last week and ex- hibited a knowledge of the law that done credit to him, and after a compliment from the Judge he was admitted to tho Bar to practice law. , Teachers Convention.—The teachers of Middle Georgia meet iu Convention on Thursday next, in this city. It is an important session and will be an interestin one, let every teacher in this coun ty be present, Hon. Jjh J. Orr State School Commissioner will ( preside. A Colored Lodge.—On Satur day night u large meeting of the colored people was held 00 the fair grounds they preserved good order and everything passed oil pleasantly. The object was to 'malvp arrangements for tlie forma tion of a lodge of the united .order of Odd Fellows, and from .what wo see the effort will be a successful oiki. The largest meeting that was .ever held in Sandersville, in our recollection,was held here on the 20th of this month. ff The cr.owd was estimated at between seven and eight hundred, it is hardly over we have more titan two or throe hundred at a nomination meeting, but this time the court room was packed and then there was a large crowd outside tlm.t .could not get in. New Hall. The buildiug at the corner belong ing to Bryant Watkins, Esq., has been taken down to make room for a new and elegant struoture which will bo an ornament to our growing city, it will be a two story building ^with three large stores qn the lower floor and a coininoilk.us entrance to a spacious Hall above, which will be handsomely finished and used for Balls, private and public Exhibitions, andreijeots credit upon the pqbliu spirit and enterprise of its liberal hearted and generyii3 proprietor. Colored Sabbath School Celebra tion Royal Church. On Saturday July 31st a large . crowd of colored people from the 93rd List, and Surrounding coun ties, perhaps 500, and also about 30 whites, who were there by special request, assembled to wit ness an entertainment given by , the students and superintendents, to show their approval and apprec lation of the progress and interest taken in tho acl^qq], f;he parents and friends liberally provided a tieli dinner and lemonq.de amply sufficient for everbody It is grati fying to say that in addition to the above, system and good order pre vailed. The programme was well arranged executed in a manner that reflected credit on tlip school ? n d spoke well for the morals and intelligence of the colored people of this community. Hied. At Teunille, Ga., on the iQth inst., at the residence of Mr. Jas. M. . Smith, her son-in-law, Mrs. Sparks widow of Maj. Thos. Sparks of this county. Lied at her sister’s Mrs, Berners, in Jefferson county, on the 9th ult., Miss Mattie Gordie Kennedy, in the 19th year of her. He then thinking Btrange of her being gone, walked around to the other door and found her lying in the yard near the door steps dead. He im mediately cjjljied in tho neighbors, who caihe in took her .up, dressed her for bu rial. No signs were found which crea ted suspicion of foul play. Some bread was found iu her mouth showing that she le/f the table eating. The case wuh dis patched to the Ordinary who immediate ly sent'out Dr. A.
