John W. Miller. The milk will be bought directly from local dairies The cost to the child will be 3 or 4 cents per half pint At this price every child should be able to get at least one bottle of milk each day. Frank is still in Cal ifornia Billy Bacon recently finished his job with Uncle Sam and came home to enter Univer sity of Georgia. During the holi days he visited relatives and friends in Douglas. Ga. and White Snrings, Fla. Miss Nan Wood, Miss Julia Todd, Miss Adelyn Butler, and Miss Edy th Billue all of Atlanta, spent the holidays with home folks Mr and Mrs Rollie Bril enter tained the Billue family at Christ mas dinner Mrs. Anise Jones of Macon and Sam Wheaton of Savannah were with Mr and Mrs. Edgar Pen&e ton for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs, Gainer Fulford of Wrightsville were guests of Mrs- George Everett and Malcolm Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Herndon Jr and children of Augusta spent Christmas with Mr. and Mrs J. M Hall Miss Elizabeth Mills, her moth er and sister were guests Mon day of Miss Clara Beall. Mr. and Mrs. Rodnev Wilcox of Athens spent Tuesday with Mr. and Mrs J. R. Wilcox. Mr and Mrs J. D Rackley of Uvalda were at home last Sunday with her mother, Mrs S. E Hat field and family. Col. and Mrs. David Hulbert of Perry spent the weekend with the Wilbur Councils. Col and Mrs. Frank Dixon vis ited the W. L Dixons. Mr and Mrs. Valda Wooten of Mcßae were guests of the Otho Bells. Mrs Robert Infinger and little daughter, Elaine, arrived Tues day for a visit with homefolks. Gilmore and Cornelia Byington are both at home with parents. Mr, and Mrs. Edwin Everett snent Christmas with parents in Ft. Gaines Mr. and Mrs J. R. Mitchell Sr. Mr. and Mrs. John Mitchell and David attended the wedding, on Mondav niorht, of Miss Rosalind Mitchell and Mr. William Harden which was solemnized in the pre sence of members of the two fa milies at the home of the bride in Barnesville. The bride was given in mar riage by her only brother, John Mitchell and her father, the Rev. Harvey Mitchell, performed the ceremony. Mr Harden is a teacher at Rut ger’s Col'ege and the young cou ple will make their home in New G E A CHRISTMAS PARTY The teachers of the Wilkinson County High School entertained the local unit of the GEA at a Christmas Party last Monday night in the high school lunch room The beautiful diningroom lent itself effectively to the de coration for the affair. A Christ mas tree, decorated and gleaming with lights, adorned the front of the room. Alternate windows held Christmas candles. Other decorations were t a b 1 e s with lighted candles, southern smilax and nandina berries. Also an ar rangement featuring a Noel scene in green and white. The members of the County Board of Education and their wives were guests for this occa sion. Teachers were accompa nied by their wives, husbands and friends. The program of the evening was presided overby Mr. Edward Dickev, one of the high school teachers and boys’ coach The usual business session was omit ted. The group sang ( hristmas carols. Mr Compton gave the story of the origin of Handel's Messiah. Interesting gamesand exchange of gifts were enjoyed. The ladies of the lunchroom served a delicious Christmas plate. MRS- LELIA SINGLETARY Funeral services for Mrs Lelia Singletary, the former Miss Le lia Fountain of Gordon, was held in Atlanta last Sunday, the Rev. Gordon Thomas officiating and burial was in Thorpe Cemetery, at Gordon. Mrs. Singletary is survived bv two daughters. Mrs W. M. Clem ent of Rome and Mrs. P. C. Wil liams of Gordon; two sons, A. E. Davis of East Point and E. H Singletary of Milledgeville; two sisters, Mrs Annie Ross of Alba ny and Urs. Bessie Hawkins of of Columbia, S. C; two brothers, S. J- Fountain, Macon and A T. Fountain. Gordon; 12 grandchil dren and 9 great-grandchildren. Jersey. Mrs. Clara Mitchell who has been in a Missouri hospital for 12 weeks, due to a broken hip, was dismissed in time to spend Christ mas at home. We hope she will be able to come South again. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Petty and little daughter came over from Columbite to spend the holidays with tlm family. Rilly player has returned from a visit in Florida Mrs. Lizzie Shepherd is visiting her son and family in Igloc, S.D Friday. Dec 28— A Central of Georgia train struck and killed a 49-year-old man here today in what was called an “accidental death” by Coroner C. (’.Thomp son- The man was identified as El bridge Erasmus Lavender ache mist for Southern Clays, Inc. of Gordon Mr. Lavender was on his way to work when he was hit, about 7:30 am., it was said. Train Engineer James Brooks was reported as saving he did not know the train had hit Lav ender as the train was pulling out of the Gordon station. He first learned of the mishap when he reached Eatonton, some 40 miles awav. Police notified the station agent there to stop the train. Survivors include his wife; two daughters. Mary and Jan; a son, Edwin; mother, Mrs. Ethel Glad in, all of Gordon; one sister Mrs. Bessie Yeomans o f Savannah; two brothers. Herbert and Ar thur Lavender of Gordon.
