Cam. fox! a -Meeting.—The mem
bers of the Houston County Fair Asso
ciation of 1877, are r< quested to meet at
the Conrt House on Friday-, the 31st
iust., to transact important business.
Every one interested is urged to be on

M.W. Havis, Pres.
it will be two hundred per cent better
than last year’s fair.
Last year the Society was timid, and
feared to go to the expense necessary to
make first-class preparations, and the
premium list was very much limited.—
But now there is no dcubt that the peo
ple are willing to pay a gate fee to so
worthy an,enterprise, and this year a
really splendid list of premiums will be
offered. The treasury has now in hand
a very neat snm to begin with nex!
summer—the net profits of the last
fair; and uo member expects to make
one cent of individual profit. The
people of Houston aud adjoining co un
ties may now begin to prepare, plant,
make and fix for the fair of 1879. It is
q nitc likely that a grand premium of
$50 or §100 will be offered for the lar
gest aud finest display of farm products
by one planter, and other premiums in
proportion. The horse, cattle, and oth
er departments will have many very-
liberal premiums offered.
Prepare for the fair.

or nearly so, in the belief that Con
gress should enact a comprehensive
and stnngeut national quarantine. The
commercial interest iu New Orleans did
not seem to be very enthusiastic for a
national quarantine, but the Mississip
pi people were very earnest in favoring
it. The Mississippi people iuformed
the committee that in the absence of a
national quarantine in case of another
yellow fever visitation in New Orleans,
they would estanlisli a regnlar shotgun
quarantine of their own against that
city, burn down the railroad bridges,

Orleans is said to be frightful, and the
experts have knowledge that there are
still isolated cases of the fever in that
city.
