mail louts are referred as matter of
right to the postoffice c< mmittee, who,
at intervals, report a bill 'containing
every routet .asked for to that time.

We qtiote the alcove from tlie Hawk-

new l'oulq will be. established as soon as
possible*, u The 1 one from Perry to

have four points of -iuapprtnnce:—Hous
ton Factory, - We llborn’s Mills
H. aynevilie and Henderson,—
Which receive and send considerable
quantities of mail matter aud which are
entirely uaiirovided by the government.
The neighborhoods :kre compelled to
keep np private mjiil lines and post offi
ces, in which they , are kindly assisted
by their local merchants,—but then
mails are more or less irregular, and
their postmasters no* being aided by
postal facilities aud regulations are not
able to enforce strict dieipline, and of
ten they have to bear the blame tor dep
redations committed by thoughtless per
sons who make free to borrow their
neighbors papers. We have very fre-.

What is heeded is for these comma-

move to seenreothe priviliges to which
they are entitled under our postal sys-

soon be pat into communication with
Perry and Hawkinsville, and the other
places may come in (after a while. At

RETRIBUTION.
We bear of an attempt made several
days since by a negro desperado to
murder one of the best of onr citi -
zens iu the northeastern part of the
county. The gentleman had reproved
the negro for swearing around his
house and lot, aud the negro waylaid
him as he came ont oi the gear bouse
door, and assaulted him furiously with
a club, liittiug him several terrible
blews, stunning bits badly.—The ne
gro then ran away. The gentleman
had his horse saddled up, and followed
with liis breeeli loading shot gun.
About a mile from the house lie came
iu sight of . the scoundrel and halted
him intending, to efl'i>et his arrest, lint
he kept moving on. His pursuer then
fired two loads of bird shot at him, but
with out effect. The negro kept go-
iug, aud the gentleman kept poking iu
the cartridges and firing bird shot
until over a hundred of them had been
deposited in his thick hide. He then
stopped and surrendered. An .exami
nation proved that the negro was com
paratively unhurt, in fact not half as
badly used tip by the shot as the the
gentleman was by the club. 'ike
singularly cool iuider the circumstan
ces, and carefully avoided using any
thiDg but bird shot.

Handsome Income For An Energetic
l ady or gentlemen.—The Ohio Scale
Works of Cincinnati have just com
pleted aud are now introducing to the
public a Handsomely finished Family
Scale, an article that has always heen
needed iti every household, & in a com
munication addressed to the publisher
of this paper the proprietors ask us to
refer them to some reliable party, to
introduce it for them to the people of
this Comity. It is very seldom that a
new article steps so suddenly into a
universal favor. Housekeepers are
loml in its praise, it is always ready,
lkeie are no weights to get lost or to be
limited up, is reliable, and will not get
ont of order. The description of them
is a handsome base surmounted by a
column in which wovks a spiral spring-
so scientifically adjusted as to weigh
anything up to twelve pounds with per
fect accuracy, on the top of the col
umn is the platform on which the ar
ticles to be weighed are placed, and
they have an adjustable indicator so
that yon can take the tare of any ves
sel you may use in weighing, giving
yon the exact net weight, Housekeep
ers at once.s"e their value in weighing
fruits, sugars and other ingredients

in testiug the weights of purchases
from others.
The Seales are made of all Brass, are

Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
P AIN in the right side, under the
edge of the ribs, increases on pres
sure; sometimes the pain is in the left
side; the patient ;s rarely able to lie
on the left side; sometimes the pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently. extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied jwith a painful sen
sation of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been done.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
weariness and debility; he is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a priikly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise tvould be beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLane’s Liver Pills, in
cases of Ague and Fever, when
