Respect for parliamentary law will
not agree to let us drop oar discussion
with onr neighbor, the Mirror, without
a few calm remarks. Onr friend seems
to have entirely dropped the main issue,
and complains that we erroneously and
Unfairly interpreted his article of the
7 th in two minor points, in hinting
that be was out of hnmor, and that he
indulged in a fling at Ferry. TVe were j
certainly poor enough “judge of lan
guage” to think that his remark that we
“must recollect that Perry does not
constitute Houston county by a consid
erable,” and the context, betokened “a
good deal of feeling,” and was intended
to prejudice us in the minds of people of
certain sections of the eonnty, and our
comments were to counteract aDy effect
that statement might have had. We
are glad our interpretations were
not true, although they seemed very
conclusive at the time. We endeavored
to confine ourself to the record of the
Mirrors own columns; and wp must
disclaim any desire to injure its busi
ness relations, as wj only intended to
neutralize its remark’s by our com
ments thereon, apd prevent any injury
to ourself.
As to the insinuation of our readiness
to “rnp with the hounds or hide with
the hare,” while we do not take a par
tisan interest in nominations, the peo
ple of Houston know that'we never yet
wore two faces, and that we have often
editorially and personally exerted our
self for our party when directly con
trary to one individual interest. But
that seemed to be only retort left to our
neighbor on that point—so we must
excuse it.
Lastly, the Minor seeming sick
the so-called controversy, darkly, per
haps sul-furionsly hints at some out
side channel to discuss the point. We
are too poor a “judge of the meaning
of language” to tell whether he prefers
ijt dis.euss.ed in a debating society,
dipideitbya game of “humble psg,”
or wjtjt pop gun’s loaded with blank
cartridges. He must excuse ns from
making» Cox-AIslon affair of this, as
there i;s an insurmountable obstacle in
the way, besides a want of inclination
and malice on our part. Nevertheless,
if friend Burr wants to resort to “trial
"by combat,” let bun send bis challenge,
and we will select appropriate and
harmless weapons. We shall certainly
not assassinate him when be -comes

prospect of two tickets being in the

—A friend wants to know how mad
“Well’s Uncle” got, as per the old time
simile. The generally accepted expla

—It looks encouraging to see an oc

to find ready sale at ten cents a pound.

THE LIBRARY EXHIBITION.
Instances of marriage resulting from
correspondence between strangers are
frequently read of, bat tbe Chicago
Tribune tells a different story about a
pair who, after exchanging leiters, met
by appointment in that city. The sur
prise with which she discovered that he
instead of being twenty-seven, tall,
dark, and aristocratic, u as at least for
fy six, stumpy red-headed, fat and bow
legged, was only equalled by the raptu
rous amazement with which he diseovs
ered that she, instead of being willowy
of figure, jnss eighteen, with warm gol
den hair, an opalescent complexion, and
blue eyes like limped lakes, was six feet
one if she was an inch, fifty-two if she
was a day, weighing three hundred

REHOBOTH S. S. ASSOCIATION.
The first annnal meeting of- the Re-
hohoth Baptist Sunday School Assoeiar
tion was held at Fort Valley last Friday,
Saturday and Sunday. The attendance
was not ns large as was desired, but the
schools represented sent excellent deler
gations, who were fully imbued with
the importance of the work- The exer
cises were of very great interest, -Rev.
T. C. Boykin being present and of
coarse the moving spirit. The dele
gates and visitors were all entertained
in a most hospitable manner by the cit
izens.
The next meeting was not appointed,
hut will be called by the executive com

that we were not able to get a full ac
count of the prqceedings.
The first of a series of exhibitions to
be given lor the benefit of the Public
Library by the ladies and gentlemen of
Perry will take place to-morrow night
at Cook’s Hull. The cast of characters
appears in another column, the piece bi-
iug “Ingomar, the Barbarian”, a pla_y
in five acts. The scenes are laid in the
city of Massilia, and the Cervenes
Mountains, and is a grand representa
tion ot tie barbaric life and love of An
cient Greece. It bas been said that the
pans of “Ingomar” and “Parthema,”
the hero and heroine, are worthy the
talents of a Forrest and a Cushman. I:
has been repeatedly presented on the
New York Stage by some of the bes.
actors of the Bay, and has always been
triumphantly successful. -The scenes,
the costumes, everything tends to keep
an intense interest to tne end. The la
dies and gontumen who have kmdlj
Consented tp present this drama, liaye
prepared themselves thoroughly, and be
ing all possessed of vtry decided talent,
will no donbt acquit themselves as pro
fessionals. The object of the exhibi
tion should alone command tbe patron
age of every citizen of the county, as a 1 !
will be entitled to the benefits of the
public library on compliance with its
easy and reasonable rules,
The price of admission is low, and
we libpo the house will be filled lo its
capacity. The For t Valley train has
been chartered for the occasion, and a
large number of the citizens of our sis
ter city have expressed an intention to
cotne over. The fare for the round
trip \t ill be only 50 cents.
Let everybody come out to the first
presentation of the legitimate standard
drama in Perry for several years.

Symptoms of a Diseased Liver.
P AIN in the right side, under the
edge of the ribs, increases on pres
sure; sometimes the pain is in the left
side; the patient is rarely able to lie
on the left side; sometimes the pain is
felt under the shoulder blade, and it
frequently extends to the top of the
shoulder, and is sometimes mistaken
for rheumatism in the arm. The
stomach is affected with loss of appe
tite and sickness; the bowels in gen
eral are costive, sometimes alternative
with lax; the head is troubled with
pain, accompanied with a dull, heavy
sensation in the back part. There is
generally a considerable loss of mem
ory, accompanied with a painful sen
sation of having left undone some
thing which ought to have been dene.
A slight, dry cough is sometimes an
attendant. The patient complains of
weariness and debility; lie is easily
startled, his feet are cold or burning,
and he complains of a pri.kly sensa
tion of the skin; his spirits are low;
and although he is satisfied that exer
cise would be beneficial to him, yet
he can scarcely summon up fortitude
enough to try it. In fact, he distrusts
every remedy. Several of the above
symptoms attend the disease, but cases
have occurred where few of them ex
isted, yet examination of the body,
after death, has shown the liver to
have been extensively deranged.
AGUE AND FEVER.
Dr. C. McLane!s Liver Pills, in
«ase» of Ague and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with tbif

For all bilious derangements, and as
a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
