It is a good work, and one that commends the zeal of the com- munify. I _ While many children are left desti tute every year, there is something in the peculiar sadness of the death of General Hood, .his wife and iittle.anes, his destitution after failure in business, the large number of bis children too small to be thrown upon the world, and the faith of fbe* old' hero in the veterans of the crusa for which lie sacrificed his limbs, and almost his life, that cottr- m uds the cause of their support and education to the Son'bern fjeople. As there are nine of his little orphans, the wards of the South, to be reared and educated, there >s no dauger of the fund growing too large. It should be at least fifty thousand dollars for the interest to maintain them, and then not in extravagance. The South is respond ing. Several counties have pledged a bale of cotton each. A move is on foot by some of onr most responsible citi zens to raise a bale in Houston. A committee at onr county fair will give ail who regard the legacy of Hood to io the South as a noble one, the privi lege of contributing to this fund. Any thing from a dollar down to a nickel will be received. Let our county send up her premium bale. They have achieved a splendid reputation as dentists and are worthy gentlemen. - Morning ■AiJNTtETUSr S770HT By a Lady of Savannah, THE Savannah Weekly News Of OCTOBER. 4th will contain the first chapters of a story of tkrilliug interest entitled Anabel’s Secret BY MRS. J. O. BRANCH. We desire not to anticipate the pleas ure which the readers of the Weekly News wiE derive from the perusal cf this charming story, and therefore will not speak of it here further tliau to saj that in the management of an original and an intensely interesting plot, not less thau in her powers of description her life-like delineations of character, and the pure moral tone of her reflec tions, the accomplished author gives assurance that she inherits the genius of hergifted mother, Mrs Caroline Lee Hentz, whose works ot fiction have been so universally admired and still REVIVAL IN niWKINSYILLE, Off For Hawkins rille.—Dr. M.S, Job- an <* disturbed sleep, with grinding of son our excellent dentist, is off f or , the teeth; temper \ ariable, but gener- Hawkinsville, to remain until the 1st SYMPTOMS OF WORMS. All bids should be sealed and Landed to the Secretary or President. This is a good opportunity for somebody to make money. Impeachment—The defense iu the Goldsmith’ impeachment case made a complet e breakdown. His lawyers seem to have badly mismanaged bis case from beginning to end. The Comptroller General was convicted under eleven ar ticles and acquitted under six. The penalty is removal frein office and per petual disqualification from bolding any office of trust or profit in Georgia. The court of impeachment can go no further. John Henby & Son.—This excellent firin of Hawkinsville, now occupies the lai'ge and convenient double stores at the 'old Maiming Corner where tkej annbuuce a great revival of business; and to see the immense stock of mer chandise of all’ the usual lines they have in store would convince the most skeptical that they mean what they say. ' Da Cooley’s -Show.—Dr; Cooley’s ’ combination. troupe, which has been engaged to.exhibit at Perry during the fair; is pronounced by Prof. Guttcnbur- ger ns -being -a fine entert rinment. The Sandersvillo - Courier says the refined' and'-appreeiative-audience at that place was charmed-from the beginning to fbe end of the entertainments, while there was nothing- in the programme that would not please the most cultured taste or oapt-ivate the most fastidious audience. • An idea of the programme will be given iu tnis paper next week. < Motheb.Goose.—Next Tuesday night the ladies snd children will repeat the Mother Goose entertainment. 'The de mand for another presentation has been so great as to give tLe manage'-s no rest. In addition will.be also given the splen did tableaux “In day’s Anld Lang Syne,” This is positively v the last time Mother Goose and her numerous prog- enoy -will appear ou the Perry boards, and all should- briug the children, out and see it.
