Editor Home Journal:— At your request I herewith furnish you with a brief account of the above Convention, held ct MarshallviUe 9th, 10th and 11th instants. The Convention was -called to order at U o’clock A. M. Tuesday, 9th, by Rev. R. M. Lockwood, S. S. Secretary South Georgia. Conference. A commit tee on permanet organization w as ap pointed to-wit.- Rev. O. W. Smith, D. D., Rev, Jos. S. Key D, D., D. h. Frederick, A. S. Giles and D. G Jones, who reported the following officers. Pres. Rev. R. M. Lockwood, Vice Presidents Reverend G G N. McDonald and R F Burden Esq., Secretaries, W. W. DeEfaven and F. M. Means. Committee on “Serial Questions,” A S Giles Chairman. “Internation Lessons” J. G. Harrison Chairman. At 4 o’clock P. M. a Sunday School experience meeting was held which was very interesting. Inci dents of childhor d and experi ences as Sunday School teachers w'ere related by several present with pathetic effect. At o’clock 9 A. M. the business of the Convention was resumed and the committee on Serial Questions ie ported on the conduct of Sunday School which was followed by discussion of the following topics. . “The Object of Sunday School Teaching,” The Rela tion of the Pastor to the Sunday School and “The Model Superintendent de scribed,” which were led by R. F. Bur den and Revs. J B McGehee and R. M Lockwood and participated in by sever al other members. At 9 o’clock A. M. Wednesday,prayer meeting conducted by Rey J. B. McGe hee and at 10$- the business meeting was resumed with the report of the committee on “International Lesson system.” “Object Teaching” and “The Qualifications and Duties of a Sunday School Teacher” bv Rev. P. S. Twitty, J. G, Harrison, Rev. C. W. Smith D. r, and others. At 4 o’clock P, M. there was a “Chil dren’s meetiug” at which there were several addresses and object teaching il lustrated by J. G. Harrison on a black b >aid. At 8 P. M. business was re sumed and discussion had on “Defects in Sunday School Training,” Adult Bible Classes and how to conduct them” Teacher Training” and “Infant Classes and Low to Conduct them.” Thursday morning at 9 o’clock “Bible Reading” conducted by Dr. Key, and at 10* the business was resumed, and the follow ing subjects were discussed. “The ciprocal relation of the Church to the Sunday School and the Sunday School to the Church'’ by Rev. G. G. N. Mc Donald, “The reciprocal dnlies of Pa rent and Teacher to the Children,” by Dr. Key and a closing address by Jlie President, after wbieli the Convention adjourned sine die. ■ . the session of the Convention was Lavmonions and highly entertaining. On account of sickness and business, however, but one-third of the members were present. The singing conducted by Prof, J, H. Newman, Wesleyan Female College, an accomplished musician, was spirited and soul-stiring, Your correspondent acknowledges the courtesies and hospitality extended to him by Messrs. GeokgePaul has received anoth er splendid lot of furniture, which is now on display at his elegant furniture store at the southeast corner of the pub lic square. He has a large number of elegant suits and good cheap furniture to suit the masses. He makes it a rule to keep not only the cheap grades, but the best and latest styles to be found in the northern markets. Besides suits he has an unlimited supply of bedsteads, bureaus, wardrobes, chairs, tables, desks, and all the fancy articles, inclu ding pictures, usually kept in a first- class furniture store. He is determined not to be excelled in quality of goods and lowness of price, and he only asks the people to price at the leading mar kets elsewhere, and save their freight money by buying, of him. The past week has been an active one at the Houston County Fair Grounds The sound of the hammer and saw have made merry music, and the progress has been very considerable. The hippodrome is about completed and will add mack to the conyenience of the visitois, especially the ladies. It will comfortably seat quite an assemblage, and give an excellent view ot the style ring, while it will afford a good shelter from sunshine and rain. The agricult ural buildin g will be considerably en larged by the erection of a large shed the whole length; and from present in dications it seem likely that all the room that can be provided will be required The noise stalls and stock pens will soon be rebuilt and a larger number than ever before. This part of the ex. kibit will be a notable feature, for many fine animals lave already been given notice of as intending to be en tered. From what we can learn the la dies departments will be far more fully represented than ever before.
