By Yunns, the supposed tomb of the
prophet Jonah. Iu„fchis mound lie-dis
covered remains of palaces erected fey
Esdarhadden and Sennacherib. His la
bors on the mounds of Nineveh have re
sulted in the discovery of a large nnm
Bet of Inscriptions, many of extreme in
terest. Passing southward, he visited
Niinroud.. where hs sontinuedliis.labors
in the temple of Venus. This building,
tpliiah he discovered in 1 his former ex
pedition, was now thoroughly exaraiu
ed, 4nd found to be a large open tem
plet containing shrines and several dei
ties. There were also found.a number
of seats arranged in parallel rows, form
ing a centre aisle from-the chief altar.
The plan now recovered^ seems to favor
the idea, of its having been a forum
•vfhere religious and other councils were
held. The explorations iii£ Assyria have
brought.to light many valuable monu
ments. Mr, Rnssani extended his oper-
»ations into fields untouched since the
time of Sjr A. H. Hynrd’s expedition,
and^he.was ablest ^carry out a series-of
explorations on the mounds of ancient
Bab.ylon. Here Lis discoveries have
been, most brilliant. In a mound hith-
erte uulonchedjhe discovered u palace
of Nebuchadnezzar’s, with rich enamels
ed columns, beams of Indian wood and
every indication having been a most
splendid edifice: Hisexcavationsin the
mound of the Birs Nimroud, the site of
the supposed Tower of Label, has prov
ed that the- destruction of' this greatr.ed-
ifibe was due not to ligtning or hostile
"attackybut to volcanic eruption, which

The French Chamber of Deputies has
deoreed the demolition of the palace of
the Tuileries, the ancient ..and modern
habitation of tlie monarch.? of that coun
try,- which was destroyed, all except its
• walls, by the Communists in May, 1871,
Tile-vote in the Chamber was such a de
cisive one, that it may be assumed for
certain, that this palace will soon disap
pear, and the ground occupied by it be
added-lathe Tuileries gardens, which
ali^ffdj-comprise fifty acres. By this
change the Placo clu Carrousel' will be
united to tlie Place de la Concorde, and
the west front of the Louvre will have
an uninterrupted aud unrivalled vista of
plaza, park and garden, such as is pre
sented in no other city in the world.—
, The Tuileries has a strange and not very
Bftvory history. It was built—or the
the present building was begum. Si th
ese—by Oifctlinriae.'de Medici, the able
and venomous wife of Henry II.. who
. 80 ruled the destinies of France to evil.
Strong-minded woman'as she was. the
crimes hatchedjand done in the Louvre
seemed to make tlie atmosphere of that
palace sickening to her. That old pal
ace was begun, according to Saint Foix,
by Dagobert, who kept his horses and
hoond's in. it.. It was made, a state pris
on by Philip Augustus and a palace by
Charles V. and Francis I. It was from
one of the windows of the Louvre that
Charles IX., son of Catherine, fired up
on tbe Huguenots. There are legends
that Charles V. began the building of
the Tuileries (whioh derives its name
from the lot on wLicli it is built, having
been a brick-yard or tile-yard—htilerie.)
but it seems certain that the oldest part
of the building whose ruins still remain,
the central Pavilion de Pborloge, was
erected by Catherine de Medici in 1561.
Cannibals in Italy.—The assize
court at Perugia has just cendemned to
death a man named Thomas Longan,
Who not only murdered his .brother
but alsOj.ato ‘him. The-two brothers,
Thomas and; Sebastian^Longuri, had
"been on:bad terms for a long time,
and on good Friday last Thomas wait
ed-for. his brother.as. he returned from
mass, and coming up benind him in a
sequestered spot knocked him down
with a blow from an axe and then chop
ped his Jiead off. Having done this
he belabored the body kuLhj his knife,
took out the heart, lungs, and other
organs, and placed them upon one side
with the head, while he cut np the rest
of the body in small pieces.-and con-
eealeditrin a ravine. Taking the head
andjviscerajhome with t kim he pulled
ont the teeth and eyes from the head,
while the intestines he fried and gave
to his wife and children to eat. The
other, pieces of the body;,werufound
soon afterward, and the crime was
teheed home to him, but when confront
ed with the remains lie was so cynical
in his attitude that seme one remarked,
*T believe he would eat macaroni upon
them,’’Jittie thinking what bad really
happened. When, his house was
searched his wife at once guessed what
a horrible meal she had eaten, and her
husband frankly told the police that it
was so, and declared that he would do
the sama 1 thing over agamrif he had the
chance..

It is an established fact that Quinine
or Cinchonidia will stop Chills, nndjjfor
this purpose there is nc better remedy.
But it is also an established fact that
they do not remove the cause that pro
duces the Chills. For if they did, the
Chills would not rexurn on the 7th, 14tb,
21st or 28th day. Then is it not money
LOST to attempt to permanently cure
the Chills with Quinine or Cinchonidia,
when they do not remove' the cause
from the system that produces them?
For until the cause is removed, the
Chills will return. The
FERRINE
Is warranted to remove every cause from
the system that produces the drills, and
if it fails to do this you will sustain no
loss, for every druggist is authorized to
guarantee a permanent cure in every
case, no matter of how long standing,
and will refund the money if the Chills
return after you are through taking.—
Positively, no cure, no pay. Try it and
be convinced. ItJcontains-_.no poison,
