In Southsea, England, flourish the I two smallest automobilists in the ! world, at least as far as is known, and sb ptfoliefent have the two youngsters beeome that residents no longer feel their hair rise with ter ror at, sight of t^o babies whizzing past. Bert and Doris Cook are the two children who have established, a record not only for being the youngest, but for having the small est machine ever made. T+ was built especially lor them at the order of an indulgent father, himself a most enthusiastic chauffeur. Mr. Cook instructed both his children in a large machine, and when they had Dr. Jenner’s Kidney Pills \ cause the kidneys to work as nature intended they should. They build up the shrunken walls of the kidneys, as no known remedy has been found to do before. As a cure for urinary troubles they have no equal. IO, 25, 50 Cents m Sold by II. Chlsol-llke Teeth of the 8qu!rrel. Quito often some one will ask, “How do squirrels break nuts ?” If tho walnuts under a tree where a uirrel has its nest are examined, it 11 be seen that they have two small holes drilled in each side. The instruments which can cut into the hard shells of seasoned walnuts must be strong and well adapted to their work. The front teeth of the squir rels are indeed ""wonderful chisels and cut into tho walnuts with great rapidity. You have often seen squir rels sitting on their hind legs busily engaged in cutting into nuts, but no doubt you have never seen how the teeth are formed. In man’s teeth the soft dentine is in the interior and composes the greater part of their bulk. It is covered with the hard, strong enam el which protects it from wearing away in chewing. Tho enamel on a squirrel’s tooth is all on the front and the dentine makes up the rest of the tooth. When a squirrel cuts with its sharp teeth the soft dentine wears away faster than the hard front of the enamel, and the top of the tooth is chisel shaped, lower in the rear and coming to a sharp edge' in front. Thus a squirrel really keeps its teeth sharp by using them. Wingless Birds. The kiwi is the solo remnant' of tho wonderful race of wingless birds that once roamed all over Hew Zea land, the gigantic skeletons of some of which have bteen found in such numbers that almost every museum in the world possesses one or more of them. The kiwi is about the size of a partridge, has a rather long neck and a curious bill about four inches in length. Its wings are quite unde veloped, and its feathers have a sort of unfinished character; which may he supposed to represent nature’s early efforts in that direction, be fore the close, rich plumage of the modern bird was “evolved.” • Wanting the means of flight, the kiwi has been almost exterminated, and with it also have gone or nearly gone all the other feathered deni zens of the woods. The invasion of their' haunts by the white man has been their destruction. ' \ COUGHS and COLDS In CHILDREN. Recoin mend atioh Of a "Well Known Chicago Physician. Hints on the Proper Lighting of the Dinner Table. This is the day of new inventions for the comfort and luxury of the home, even if it ie alsp the day of the servant girl question. When you' are planning your small dinner party—■the adjective i3 used advis edly, because a big one is always a failure—be sure to. light your ta ble from anywhere but above. Just have some one hold a bright or even a shaded light over votfr bead while you stand before a mirror and sea the telltale' shadows that fiendishly catch every wrinkle or blemish, ev ery point that tells of fatigue dr is not perfect in face or costume. Then have the same light held at the side or beneath and note the dif ference. After you try this experi ment you will never subject your fair feminine guests, whether they be buds fir. full blown -roses, to such a tost as the light frofn above, says the St. Louis Democrat, There come now for the proper lighting of rooms for social func tions the most beautiful designs. A Titania in bronze holds a stem from which spring five graceful branch es, each bearing an enameled leaf and tiny electric light, the whole being about two feet in height. Others are a boy in joyous mood, playing with a vine which he has caught about him, and from its tendrils curl the pretty lights, each in a leaf; a dancing girl, a Mephis- topheles, a youth in doublet and hose, all most artistic in design and execution and suitable either for the table, where the connecting wires could be carried from the chandelier, leaving that unlighted, or to be placed on brackets or stands at" suitable heights, the tubing hid den in twining smilax. Housecleaning Wrinkles. Ho home can be comfortable un less it is not only clean, but thor oughly clean. If carpets are not thoroughly swept, glass and china really clear and bright, the effect is almost as bad as if they were really dirty. A cleaner that will keep the furniture looking nice, remove tho stains and soil and does not cost a great deal in time and money is a great boon to housewives. To reach this end there is nothing hotter than a mixture of linseed oil and kerosene. If the. article to be pol ished is very much soiled, wash it thoroughly with warm soapy water, drying as quickly as possible. Then with a flannel rag dipped in a mix ture of two parts linseed to one of kerosene rub the surface thorough ly. Let it stand awhile until you have rubbed another piece and then with a perfectly clean piece of flan nel, free from oil, polish until it shines to your taste. Bronzes and bent ironwork, fenders and grate fixings all look brighter and fresher for a little rubbing with the oily rags, and the room and its furnish ings that you have thus treated pre sent a look of dainty, refined clean liness that is worth a great deal of work and infinite trouble to pro duce.
