Easter services were held here yes
terday, and our church was tastily
and beautifully decorated for the
occasion. Upon entering the church,
we notioed lettered on the rear wall
the words, “The Glad Awakening,”
which were very attractive, and I
reckon were impressive to those who
gave them any thought. The servi
ces were opened with song and pray
er; Miss Maggie Rentz was organist.
Being a pretty day, there were a
goodly number attending. All
acted their parts well and deserve
praise, therefore I will not make
any special mention of any one ex
cept the girls, who looked as sweet
as a tub of roses floating in a stream
of honey. Well, I will say some
thing about the little boys, because
they are of my sex. They looked
manly and we feel proud of them.
The program was as follows:
Song—‘“Hail the Happy Spring
time.”
Prayer by Z. B. Means.
Song—“Christ the Lord is Risen
To-day.”
Recitatation—Irene Baird.
Responsive reading.
Song, ,‘He isjRisen as He Said.”
Recitation by Jim Stewart.
Exercise and song, “Easter Gross.”
Recitation by Mary D. Roberts.
Song, “Jesus Rose,” by Misses.
Mary Brown, Julia Rentz, and Mrs.
J. J. Houser.
Bible reading and song by prima
ry class.
Recitation, “Easter,” by Maggie
Ellis.
Song, “In our’Father’s House” by
Mrs, Stonewall Ellis.
Exercise and song, “Nature’s
Awakening.”
Recitation,'“The Last Command,”
by Mary E. Riley.
Anthem, by Mrs. N. H. Grimsley.
Recitation by Clara Rentz.
Recitation and song, “Wake Up”
by seven little girls, viz—Viola Ri
ley, Maggie Ellis, Lydia Ellis, Lu
cia Means, Clara Rentz, Mary D.
Roberts.

by Viola Riley.
Offering.

Miss Matilda 0. Amos departed
this life on the 23rd of March, at
her home near this place. She was
eighty-two years old at the time of
her death. She had been a great
sufferer, not able to walk for nearly
twenty years. She had almost a
life-time been a consistent member
of the Primitive Baptist church.
Her sweet submiesin to the Divine
Will was truly wonderful. To hear
her singing in her loneliness, “How
Firm aFoundation” etc., was enough
to drive scepticism forever in obliv
ion. Her Master has said “it is
enough, come up higher”.
No more suffering, no more long
and sleepness nights for her. She
has gone to the better land where
God the “Son” forever shines, and
scatters night away.”
She leaves one sister, Miss Joe
Amos, in this county, one sister,
Mrs. Dr. Jenkins, in Alabama, and
one brother, Mr. F. M. Amos of
Texas, with many other relatives and
friends to mourn her loss. But we
grieve not as those without hope.
A Friend,

Farm work is retarded in .this sec
tion on account of frequent rains.
Only a few have planted corn.
March is bidding us adieu, and the
prospects are good for open weather
and out-door work, we hope, will
soon be resumed.
The public roads are in bad con
dition, some of them almost unpass-
able, oaused from fresh work and
heavy rains.
Invitations are out for the mar
riage of Mr. W. W. Graham of Una-
dilla, and Miss Maggie' Rentz of
Grovania.
I have not seen anything of Cap
tain Coot, Uncle Ned, nor the Pas
ture boys grazing up this way lately.
I reckod the bars have been put up
and the gates locked; pull down
the fence boys, and come ahead.
The grain is just right for nipping.
Politics are being discussed now
in our place; I presume the candi
dates will soon be arouud and tell
us why we should vote for them.
Messrs. Walter Meaus, Gus Pode,
and Hub Marshall wore in bur place
to-day shaking hands with thoir
many friends. Wo don’t know
j whether Gus and Hub are candi
dates or not. If they are, they did
let us know it.
Messrs. Brown Pitts, and H. R.
Brown each have planted a small
patch in casava. Mr. Pitts says c&-
sava is an excellent food for hogs,
and can be cooked or eaten like a
sweet potato. Mr. Pitts is wearing
a broad smile—a girl.
Mrs. C. 0. Anderson of, Macon,
is visiting her sister, Mrs. A. H.
Daniel of Hayneville.
Misses Alma Anderson of Maeon,
and Evelyn Powers of Hayneville,
were the guests of Miss Mary Brown
yesterday.
Mr. Charlie Fitzgerald of ’ Pine-
hurst made a ’ short visit to his
brother, W. G. Fitzgerald, last week.
Mrs. Anna Houser, Mr, Lawton
Houser, Mr. Madison Marshall and
Miss Gertrude of Elko, were visit
ors to our place yesterday, the guests
of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Houser.
Mrs. Josephine Baird returned
home some days ago from Augusta,
Ga., after an extended visit.
M rs. G. W. Smith of Perry, who
has been visiting her father and
brother, Mr. Joe Q. Ellis, and Stone
wall Ellis, returned home yesterday.

and Sunday.
