HOUSTON HOME JOURNAL Price $1.50 A Year. In Advance. I*ubliaht*d Kvery Tliurtwlay Morning Official Organ of Houston County JOHN L. H ODG KS, Editor. Thuksdat, Dkckmrkk 11. SHOP EARLY AND NIHIL EARLY Lust Tear, through t lie generous 40 operation of the press, the mo Ties ami ?.tier advertising med iaiUH Christinas mailers were in daccd to dispatch their Yuletide present* earlier m the month than ever before in the history of the institution of gift exchanging iu lite holiday season. As a result, the spectacle of the last minute rush of former years, with its uttendaut heartbreaking labor ou the pari of weried and nerve worn store clerks and postal employees was avoided. This year Postmaster General New and and First Assistant Post master General John H. llartlott kave determined to make an even better record and to banish for all time the suffering undergone in past ye ?rs by t hose engaged in the snle or transportation of gifts. They hope to make "Shop Karly" and Mail Karly" a habit with the American people. Mailing early does not mean December 1st or before, but if everyone could get their holiday tokens in the mail between Decern ber 10 and December 20, the post office eon 1<I not ask more. particular attention this year will be paid to greeting card. De spite the success last, year it was aoted that the l.u-t minute mail consisted largely of cards, lossib )y many of them were returned gr 9 ings to friends, heard from on a previous mail, but overl< oked on the original Christmas list. Un like parcels and letters containing money orders, cards, of course, can aot be well niaiked "Do Not Open Until Christmas." Therefore, it is possible that the many mailers bold them until the Inst, to insure delivery on Christmas Eve. This class of mailers this year, however may find their cards undelivered ?ntil after Christmas Day. Believing that the energies of postal employees should not be sapped to tho lar-t degree for any avoidable reason, and, intent npon securing for them the samo Christ mas privileges enjoyed by other?, Postmaster General New asks the hearty co-operation of tho public. The last minute, or zero hour has been moved up so that all postal employees may eat their Christ mas dinners at home. Rural car riers will deliver no mail at all on Christmas day and clerks and car riers in the city offices will stop work promptly at noon.
