JU06E WARREN GRICE 93, DEAD
Washington Leomdas Grice, 93,
a former judge of the Superior
Court of the Bibb circuit, died
Monday night at his botne in
Mawkinsville, Ga. His wife and
?on, Warren Grice, were at his
bedside.
Former Judge "Grice was strick
en with paralysis four days betore
Pneumonia developed, which
caused his death.
He was born near Griffin, Gu.,
afterwards moving to Perry, where
he practiced law with Gen. Eli
Warren, marrying Miss Martha
Virginia Warren, a daughter of
Geuer*l Warren. The couple re
cently celebrated their golden
wedding anniversai y.
After leaving the bench Judge
Grice moved to Hawkinsville,
where he practiced law until ten
years ago, when he retired.
During the Civil War Judge
Grice Became a lieutenant-colouel
in the Confederate Army.
His son. Warren (irioet became
attorney general of Georgia. Judge
Grice never aspired to political
office, tie was widely known
throughout Central Georgia.
Funeral services were conduct
ed at the Hawkinsville Methodist
Church Tuesday morning at 10
o'clock and the body brought to
Perry, Judge Griee's old home for
interment. Burial wasat 12 o'clock
in Evergreen cemetery. The funeral
was largely attended by people
from this section of the state,
members of bar being prominently
represented.
MOVE INTO NEW QUARTERS
Two concerns here moved into
new quarters during the past
week.
B H. Andrew & Son have
moved into their new two story
hardware store building recently
completed and McLendon Auto Co.
into their auto supply store just
added to their garage building on
Carroll Street.
Considerable improvement i n
business houses on Carroll Street
has been noted during the past
week, four stores having received
new coats of paint greatly addiug
to their attractiveness.

visited relatives her? last week.

Mr. J. E. Carswell left this week
for Loyd Fla., to be away several
weeks on business for the Big
Indian Lumber Co.

visited their daughter and sister
in Wrightsville last week.
M rs. Lilliau Bryant is spending
a while in Jacksonville Fla. as the
guest of relatives.

of Fort Valley spent last Sunday
with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Carswell
Miss Elmer Watson of Unadilla
spent Sunday as the guest of Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Edmundson.
Mrs. G. C. Harrison entertained
the Grovania Womans Missionary
Society Tuesday afternoon. After
au interesting devotional and
business meeting:, a social hour and
refreshments were enjoyed by all.
The Grovania Epworth League
will have a social at the school
house Frioay night. All Leaguers
and young people are invited.
PERRY G1RLRANKS HIGH ON WESLEYAN
JOURNALISTIC STAFF
M iss Frances Cater of Perry,
popular Wesleyan student, was
elected Wednesday March 11, to
the position of advertising manag
er of the Veterropt, the college
annual.She is alsoexchange editor
of the Wesleyan. Miss Cater has
had splendid experience in this
work. She was advertising manag
er of the Jester, annunl humorous
publication issued by the class in
journalism. She has also assisted
in this department on the staff of
the Wesleyan, monthly literary
magazine of the college.

M. A. EDWARDS IS DEAD

Mr. M. A. Edwards, age 79 died
at the homo of his daughter Mrs.
W. B. Norton in Fort Valley Sun
day afternoon. He was sick only a
few days with influenza.
The funeral services were con
ducted at 9:30 Tuesday morning
at the Nortou home and the body
was brought to Perry for inter
ment in Evergreen oemetary.
Air. Edwards lived the gieater|
part of his life in Ferry and reared !
a large family here. He was for
mauy years Clerk of the Superior
Court of Houston County and
later engagiug in mercantile busi- j
ness here. Ho was prominently
identified with the social and busi
ness life of the community and
held the friendship and esteem of
a wido cirele of acquaintances
throughout this section.
Mr. Edwards was a useful mem
ber of the Methodist Church and
lived the life cf a true Christian
1 gentleman
| His children are Mrs. E. K.
Braselton, of Washington, D. C.
Mrs. M. M. Marshall, of Macon,
i Mrs. Houston Houser, of Perry, i
Mrs. Earnest Vance of Eufaula,
Mrs. W. B. Noiton of Fort Valley
and Miss Lorine Edwards, of Fort
Valley; one son Harris Edwards,
of Jacksonville, also survives.
There are a large number of rela
tives aud many grandchildren.
GKOVANIA MISSIONARY MEETING
The regular monthly meeting of
the Grovauia Missionary Society
was held March 3rd at the home
of Mrs G. C. Harrison with 16
members in attendance.
The business was conducted by
the President, Mrs.Mary Eubaaks.
Roll call ?nd reports were given.
A committee of three was appoint
ed to select a mission study
book. The devotional was led by
Mrs. R- L. Baird, assisted by Mrs.
H. J. Brown. Mrs. M. B. Pitts and
Mrs. C. G. Sharpe. The Bible
Lesson was taken from Luke 4,
38-41, *4A Friendly Visit and A
Strengthening Hand." The coun
try under special study was Ko
rea. Special topic, "Bell H. Ben
nett Memorial."
After an interesting and helpful
program a social hour was enjoy

theatre whcih Las been closed for
repairs for several months will he
opened for the public on n?-xt
Saturday under new management.
The New Strand has been
thoroughly renewed, new fixtures
and opora seats installed and the
building made comfortable and
attractive. It is understood that
only high grade pietnres will be
presented and a number of high
class attractions have been booked
for the coming week.
