Library to offer programs for children

Special to the Home Journal
Preschoolers’ Slorytime begins
promptly at 10 a.m. every Tuesday
and Wednesday . This program is
for children between the ages of
three and five years old. Parents arc
encouraged to attend with their
children until they arc secure in the

The focus of the program is on

According to Engles, the com
mission is considering abolishing
the special prosecutor position and
placing all county attorney's under
the D.A. scale.
Under the new scale new employ
ees would receive approximately the
same starling salary of between S2O
and 525-lhousand annually.
However, provisions would be
made available for time in grade
pay.
According to Lukcmirc, a new

Ferry, from 1 a
The whole family is involved.
Our idea for a 'Hobo Day' came
from one of my son's. My other
son was this year’s Santa. Even my
husband gets involved," said Ferry.
Before working in care for the
elderly, Ferry was a registered
nurse. However, she very quickly
realized the job wasn't for her.
"Life and death decisions placed a
lot of stress on me. The whole
family suffered really. I think what
bothered me most was the fact that
1 had little time to really gel to
know the patients as real people."
Feeling a change was in order,
Ferry quickly shifted her emphasis
to nursing homes. She has been
with The New Perry Nursing Home
since 1983.
"It's a great place to work. The
staff and management arc wonder
ful. When I first came to New
Perry, they made me really feel a
part of everything. The manage
ment here is especially helpful.
They really care about the patients
as individuals. They spare no ex
pense in providing for patient com
fort. It makes the job easier to
know that you have their support",
said Ferry.
When walking through the facil
ity, one is immediately struck by
evidence of a special caring atmo
sphere. Able patients sit leisurely
in the dining area, conversing with
one another.
They arc not dressed in robes as
one might expect, but in casual
attire. The ladies' hair is styled as
though by beauticians. The men arc
clean shaven and orderly in
appearance.
According to Ferry, evidence of

program is for children between 18

through the 20 minute session.

crcti agrees this is the best way to
reward those who stay as well as
being the best way to slop the
dropout rale to the private sector.
"Without it, both our offices arc
just training lawyers to work in
private practice," said Everett.
"We can never be competitive
with the private sector, and that's
0.k.; but we've got to make the
jobs more attractive to those con
sidering county government as a
career. We've got to make an at
tempt to keep the help we have,"
said Lukcmirc.
It’s far from being the perfect
solution, but it's a good start," said
Everett.

enough," said Ferry.
"We [the staff) were decorating
the Christmas tree when one of our
residents said we were doing it all
wrong. Other patients joined in the
effort to decorate the tree in an old
fashion motif. Their results won
first prize."
