Hugh Lawson IH, 24, of 1812
Ross St, died Saturday, Dec. 4,
;i993 in a local hospital. Born in
Perry, he was a graduate of
Westfield School and was the
Valedictorian of his senior class and
the president of the Student
Council. While a 3rd year law
student at the Walter F. George
Law School at Mercer University,
he was a member of the Craven
Cup Moot Court Team and a
member of the Mercer Law Review
and was on the Dean's LisL He
graduated Magna Cum Laude from
Mercer University in 1991 with a
BA Degree.
He had received the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award and was a
member of Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Blue Key Honor Fraternity, and
Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. Mr. Lawson had also served as the
president of the Mercer Student Government Association from 1990-1991.
Hugh also was a Jesse Mercer Scholarship recipient and a member of
Kappa Alpha Order where he was Brother of the Year in 1989.
Survivors: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Lawson Jr. of Perry; brother,
Robert Reeves "Bob” Lawson of Perry; two grandmothers, Mrs. Hugh
Lawson Sr. of Perry and Mrs. R. G. Way of Hawkinsville. He will be
sadly missed by all family and friends.
Services: Were held Monday, Dec. 6, 1993 in the Perry First
Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Burial took place in the Evergreen Cemetery,
Perry. Dr. John O. Yarbrough, the Revs. Larry Wood and Jim Shipley
officiated the service.
Gladys Sewell Leverette
Gladys Sewell Leverette, 89, of 1913 Northside Rd., died Thursday,
Dec. 2, 1993 in a nursing home in Marshallville. She was the daughter of
the late Henry Newton and Donna Whiting Sewell. She was a homemaker
and a member of the First Baptist Church and the Sarah Sunday School
class. Survivors: son, Joe B. Leverette of Perry; sister and brother,
Sara S. Smith of Decatur and Luke Sewell of Sarasota, Fla.;
grandchildren, Dave Leverette of Dothan, Ala., Debra Ann Calhoun and
Donna Rose Hughes, both of Montgomery, Ala.; great-grandchildren,
Chris Leverette and Stu Leverette, both of Dothan, Ala., and Brooke Dent
of Montgomery, Ala.
Services: The funeral was held Saturday, Dec. 4, 1993 in the First
Baptist Church in Perry at 2 p.m. Dr. John O. Yarbrough and the Rev.
Larry Wood officiated. Entombment took place Saturday, Dec. 4,1993 in
the Perry Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, the family
requests donations be made to: James Teresi Fund c/o First Baptist
Church, Perry, Ga. 31069. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry had
charge of arrangements.
Bre-awnnaa Myshal & Bre-one Maurice
Jackson
Bre-awnnaa Myshall Jackson and Bre-one Maurice Jackson, both infants
of Westwood Trailer Park Lot #29, died recendy. They were the infant son
and daughter of Nicole Jackson and Darrell Grayer. Survivors: parents,
Nicole Jackson and Darrell Grayer of Perry; grandparents, Jimmy Jackson
and Betty Jackson of Perry and Mrs. Annie Grayer of Warner Robins, Mr.
Steve Jackson and Mrs. Nel Green Jackson, both of Kathleen, Mr. and
mrs. Arlessie Grant of Houston County; nine aunts and four uncles.
Bobby Glover Mortuary had charge of arrangements. %J
Services: Graveside services were held Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1993 in
the Zion Hill Cemetery, Macon County, at 1 p.m. The Rev. EzeH
officiated.

Latrelle Landrum Kenney
MONTEZUMA-LatreUe Landrum Kenney, 78, died Saturday, Dec. 4,
1993 in a local hospital. Bom in Oconee County, she was the daughter of
the late J. C. Landrum and Hattie Lovem Landrum and was the widow of
James Carroll Kenney. She was a homemaker and a member of
Montezuma United Methodist Church. Survivors: children, the Rev.
James C. Kenney of Waycross, Betty Jean Avera of Augusta, and Marie
Lawrence of Perry; sisters, Blance L. Day of Montezuma, Mary Claire
Hessinger of High Shoals, and Myrtle Irby of Royston; 11 grandchildren;
and eight great-grandchildren.
Services: Were held Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1993 in the Montezuma
United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Burial took place in the Felton
Cemetery. The Revs. Richard G. Aultman and C. Dick Reese Jr.
officiated. Watson-Mathews Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

Greene loves his job, meeting people

the local Flint Electric office,
Charles Greene of Perry has had his
share of adrenalin-building mo
ments. r
He’s been growled at by dozens
of dogs and he’s been bit by one.
He’s even been chased by a bull.
But, despite it all, he says he
loves his job.
“I love meeting the people and I
love working outside,” he said
Monday afternoon while finishing
up his paperwork for the day. “It’s a
great job.”
A native of Columbus and the
son of Otis W. Greene of Perry and
Alma Greene of Macon, Charles
moved to Perry with his parents
some 25 years ago when his father
became service manager for what
was then Moody Ford. He graduated
from Perry High School in 1982
and worked as a fireman with the
Perry Fire Department for seven
years prior to joining Flint Electric.
He has been with Flint for four
years.

In conjunction with the annual
state-wide program held each year,
Perry is once again encouraging all
residents to recycle their Christmas
tree Saturday, Jan. 8.
Bring One for the Chipper pro
gram saves valuable landfill space
and gives the community a gift of
mulch, fish habitat and fuel.
In Perry, trees will be chipped at
the City Bam at the end of Jemigan
Street where Tucker Road begins
and at Perry High School's North

PPG makes donation to UW
PPG Industries recently completed their United Way of
Central Georgia Campaign. The total contribution was
$11,667 which represents employee and corporate
