Churches plan activities
for members, community
First Baptist
Perry
Sunday is Jimmy Teresi
Scholarship Day. It is the one
Sunday each year the church raises
money for the scholarship estab
lished to honor Bro. Jimmy Teresi,
a beloved former pastor of the
church. This scholarship is avail
able for students from FBC who are
called to some area of Christian
ministry.
With an original goal of
$50,000, today the fund stands at
$44,161.86. Only $5,838.14 is
needed to achieve the church's goal
and continue to provide annually for
those preparing for ministry.
With World Missions
Conference only weeks away, on
Feb. 20-23 five missionary guests
will speak during Sunday services,
special Monday and Tuesday ses
sions and Wednesday night.

A group from the church will be
going to Jamaica Feb. 12-19.
Approximately S7OO is needed to
help finance the trip. Those inter
ested in contributing to support the
FBC missionaries can call the
church office.

Baptist
The Greater Union Baptist
Church family will observe Rev.
James F. Sherman's Thirteenth
Pastor's Appreciation Day Sunday,
Feb. 6, 1994.
Rev. Thomas Jefferson, along
with his congregation from the St.
Luke Baptist Church in Dexter,
will be guests at the 3 p.m. service.
Houston Lake
Baptist
A gospel sing featuring the
Gospelaires and Good News Singers
will be held Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7
p.m.
Evangelist Fred McCoy is the
featured speaker at an upcoming re
vival to be held at the church Feb.
27-March 3. Services will be held
Monday through Thursday at 7
p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. and
7 p.m. A nursery will be provided
for children up to three years old.
The church welcomes two new
members, Jcnncne Ellis and Daniel
Ellis of Kathleen.
Perry Presbyterian
Church
Three couples from the church
attended the Ligonier's 1994
Orlando Conference Feb. 3-5 at the
Orange County Convention Center.
Attending the conference were Jeff
and Robyn Candell, Gary and Mary
Hamilton and All and Mary
Pearson.
The church is beginning two
new classes beginning with a
Music Reading class for anyone,
not just choir members, interested
in learning to read music, identify
rhythms and recognize intervals.
The first meeting is Sunday, Feb. 6
at 6 p.m. in the upstairs choir
room.
Anew mer class begins Sunday,
March 6 and will continue through
Sunday, April 10.
Ladies Appreciation Night will
be held at the New Perry Hotel
Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.

Training session is scheduled for
Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m. for any

District Conference is Sunday,
Feb. 13 in Hawkinsville. Official
delegates will be receiving notice,
but everyone is welcome to attend.
Also on Sunday, Feb. 13 is a
youth sponsored lunch. Proceeds
from the lunch will be used for
Habitat for Humanity.

Rehoboth Baptist
Church
This Sunday is Loyalty Day at
Rehoboth Baptist Church
celebrating 6 years of ministry in
the Perry community. The
morning worship service will
include a look back at Rehoboth's
history and special music by the
Ladies' Ensemble. We will enjoy a
covered dish dinner following the
morning service. Evei/one is
invited to attend.
Outreach is an important
ministry at Rehoboth. In our
"Great Cookie Caper”, we are
planning to deliver 1200 cookies to
more than 200 homes in the
coming weeks. Deliveries will be
made each Monday evening between
6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Have you ever wondered what
Baptists believe? Beginning this
Sunday and for eight consecutive
Sunday evenings during the
Discipleship Training hour (5:45
p.m. to 6:45 p.m.). Woody Rush
will lead an informative study on
the Baptist Faith and Message.
Each week, we will explore
different topics concerning what
Baptists believe about our Christian
faith.
Anew class, led by Linda
Farmer, has been formed for pre
schoolers, ages 3 to 5, during
Discipleship Training hour.
Activities will focus on learning
about music through singing, the
use of rhythm instruments, craft
activities, and stories.
Rehoboth Baptist
Association
L.A. Dodger Brett Butler will
give testimony at an Associational
Men's Wild Game Dinner Thursday,
Feb. 3 at Centerville First Baptist
Church. Featured also will be Larry
Wynn, pastor of Hebron Baptist
Church.
Men must wear hunting clothes
to get in and bring a wild game
dish. The event begins at 6 p.m.
Associational R.A. Racer Derby
will be held at Sandy Valley Baptist
Church Saturday, Feb. 19.
Registration will be held at 8 a.m.
and the race begins at 9 a.m. For

Georgia Baptist
Convention
On March 4-6 Single Adults
from all over the state of Georgia
will be gathering at Jckyll Island.
Hundreds are expected to attend the
celebration at the Clarion Resort.
The event has nationally known
speakers including Phil Brannon,
single adult consultant from
Nashville, Tenn. Other personali
ties will be bringing new perspec
tives on exercise, nutrition, spiri
tual and personal growth issues re
lating to single people. Biking,
golf, tennis and other activities are
planned.
Registration will begin at 3
p.m. on Friday, March 4 and the
weekend will end after a worship
service on Sunday morning. For

Tucker plans several events
for School Counseling Week

Tucker Elementary School is cel
ebrating "National School Counsel
ing Week," Feb. 7-11 with special
activities each day that will involve
students, staff and parents.
Monday is "Kindness Day" with
emphasis on self respect and good
manners. Kindness is the only way
to stop violence.
Tuesday will be "Math Day."
Students will wear unsolved prob
lems.
"Swap a Teacher Day" and "Tee
Shirt Day" takes place on Wednes
day. Homeroom teachers will share a
book with another classroom. Stu
dents and staff will wear tee shirts
with words.
. Thursday is "Family Day." Par
ents arc encouraged to turn off the
television for 30 minutes and read
with their children. During this read
ing time, families arc asked to turn

Illusion show, a 90 minute live
stage production to be held at the
Perry Armory Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 7
p.m.
Featured magician is Dorian
Blake who will present an evening
of refined magic and illusion com

to be an evening of family fun and
togetherness.

Notice of Meetings
Houston County Board of Education
The Houston County Board of Education voted at its
January 11, 1994, meeting to meet monthly at the Board of
Education Office, 1211 Washington Street, Perry, Georgia.
Meetings will occur on the second Tuesday of each month,
beginning at 1:00 p.m.
The public is invited to each of these meetings.

The purpose of "National School
Counseling Week" is to focus on the
accomplishments of the counseling
program, to recognize the significant
contributions of other educators and
members of the community and to
advocate for more involvement and
support for the counseling program.
School counselors serve as cata
lysts igniting the spark of leader
ship, as caregivers showing compas
sion for others, as communicators
telling the world how school coun
selors make a difference and as col
laborators working with others to
meet the needs of students.

Area students recognized
during social science fair
The 1994 Houston County
Social Studies Fair, drew several
hundred parents, students and other
interested persons to the three day
event, held at the Houston County
Fairgrounds recently. Students in
grades 5 through 10 participated,
including students from Houston
County Public Schools and Sacred
Heart School. The fifteen First
place winners will enter the
Regional Fair in Macon on Feb. 12
at Southeast High School.
Winners in Macon will then enter
the State Fair at Georgia State
University in Atlanta in March.
The purpose of these fairs is to
present exhibitions of work
prepared by students in grades 5-12.
Each project is designed to show
research about the study of people
in relation to their physical and
social environments. Judges for the
fair were provided by Middle
Georgia RESA. These individuals
spent several hours determining the
quality of each exhibiL

Grounds Exposition Building in
which the projects were displayed.
