quarters at Hotel Aragon and spent a
pleasant half hour In his company. Mr.
Mitchell I" a small man In stature, yet
bubbling over with enthusiasm" on the
fraternal Insurance question. He has

More than alx million member* are

prise nearly one-third of the entire
population of this country.

they hold a certificate.
Most of these fraternal societies In
vest all their surplus funds In state,
county nnd municipal bonds, taking
every advantage of placing It tight
back In the community of their mein
bars, thu.t helping the very section from
whence the money cornea In this
respect alone the fraternal system has
been of greet bcnetlt to the country.
The splendid financial condition of
the leading fraternal orders has shown
that tho predictions of short life were
false prophecies.
As most of these orders are work
ing under the National Fraternal Con
gress rates, that have been made the
legal standard tn several states, "their
membership have no fear but that at
the maturity of their certificate there
will be funds at hand to meet tt
value.

FOUND IN FOREST
BY RED TRIBESMEN
Ooneaauga Tribe No. 33 held their
regular sleep on last Wednesday with
a good attendance.
The forest was scouted for gam*
and the warriors und braves ran across
a covey of sight pale faces. They were
easily trapped and brought back to
camp, where the big chiefs were found
awaiting them. They then proceeded
to make merry', putting one through
the adoption degree and seven through

DEGREE CONFERRED
Piedmont Lodge, 110, I. O. O. F„ met
Pridey night with an unusually large
attendance. The lodge carried ten or
twelve candidates through tha Initia
tory degree, which was put on In fine
style by the Piedmont degree team.
Piedmont lodge, though one of the
youngest lodges hi the city, has had a
remarkable growth alnco Its organisa
tion, which was only thres year* ago
the 4th of last July. It Is understood
It has put In more members than any
lodge In this Jurisdiction In the last
year, and bids fair to do aa wall during
the preaent term.
The second degree will be given on
next Friday night and It Is hoped that
the hull will tie packed to overflowing
for tvhen this lodge gives notice that
the eecond degree la to be conferred
the house la usually packed to take ad
vantage of the occasion.

weeks-old Infant, the child of Mr. an<|
Mr* Olga Willett, who reside near the
Hammond ore mines, was 'severely and
painfully Injured Thursday by sob*
while rale, which have been kept
around the house as pete, if It had
not been for the timely discover}' by
the mother. It la probable that the rats
would have killed Ihe child. Mrs. Wil
lett left the baby lying on the bed
while ehe went to a nearby spring for
a bucket of water. On returning she
was horrified to see that the rats had
attacked the child, and were viciously
gnawing Its hands and face.
