The sporting world is nwnkc once more.
After n winter of hibernation, things are beginning to hap-
The spring meeting of the Southern League is the big event
of this week.
At this meeting a schedule will lie adopted and plans made for
the coming season.
This week will also see the unlmttiing of spring practice for
practically nil the college and prep school teams in the South.
Tech and Georgia have bee,, „( jt f or weeks. Auburn starts
today. Spring work is beginning at Vanderbilt. Tennessee is
getting busy. And taken altogether the real awakening has
come in college baseball.
Ten days more remain in this month and when they are gone
the winter of sports is officially over. For when the first full
week of March begins the tirst baseball team will report in At
lanta for work.
In addition to the baseball meeting on February there
will lie the automobile hill climb, which from the spectator’s
viewpoint, will be the more spectacular stunt.
The prospects now are for a decidedly lively tilt between the
many ears which will be entered and it aeems certain that the
coming hill climb will be one of the most entertaining events of
the sporting season.
The writer took a spin over the proposed, course. And if
ever a hill was well suited for n climb the llapeville Hill is it.
At the foot of the hill is a nice little down-slant which af
fords the contesting ears a good start. At the foot of the slant
is a curve and then the road opens away right up hill for a
couple of miles. It is enough of a hill to be a test of the hill-
climbing capacity of any car and-yet uot steep enough to cut
down a ear’s goxig anility to a crawl. The road is broad and
good and there will be no danger from interference from pass
ing horses.
In addition to the baseball meeting and the bill climb them
may be other events on Washington's birthday. Quite probably
there will be the usual holiday shoot at the Atlanta Gun Club
and possibly a golf tournament over the Fast Lake course of the
Atlnntn Athletic Club.
