Chattanooga, xhnn., Feb. 23 -While
returning to her home on Walden**
Ridge, near Vnldnu, Saturday night,
Mr*. Joe Wilbanks wai nttneked by a
negro, who ha* not yet been appre
hended. Tho woman wan about to en
ter the door of her home when a black
arm reached out In the dark nnd grab
bed her. She ncreamed and struck the
negro with her pull of milk at the name
time. The negro released hi* grasp for
a moment and then shoved the woman
against the side of the house. Injuring
her somewhat. The woman continued
to ncream, when the negro been me
frightened and fled. The brave little
woman pursued the negro for some dis
tance nnd cried to some men who were
driving a delivery wagon, hut her cries
wen* not heard. The negro finally
turned out of the road nnd escaped In
the woods.
The news of the attempted assault
spread like * lid fire nnd a big crowd
gathered, bent on lynching the negro If
he should be found.
