For an Alabama exhibit the legisla

Greenebom, N. C., March 10.—When
Federal court opened thla morning a
certificate waa read from Dr. Charles
Roberteon, the attending physician on
J. W. Hasty, the ex-revenue officer, on
trial since last Monday for alleged
false reporte of destruction of ttllle,
that It was Impossible to state when
he would be well enough to leave the
hoepllal. Judge Boyd ordered a mis
trial and discharged the Jury. The
case was set to be tried egaln at the
opening ot the court/Monday, April I.
Judge Boyd gave notice that on
Thursday of this week sentence would
he passed on those formerly convicted
of alleged frauda against the govern
ment. All are out on bond and have
been telegraphed by counsel to appear
Thursday.
The following are the parties convict
ed or who pleaded guilty: Ex-Revenua
Ofltcere C. D. Mamuel, R. H. Hardin, A.
8. Patterson, U E. Davies. E. C. Davis,
and also the following Illicit distillers,
alleged co-ronsplratore with the offi
cers: W. B. Hinlthy, Cal Eller, T. V.

whipped E. N. Stevens, a well-known
eltlsen of Birmingham. Cuplaln Reid
entered Mr. Stevena* office, II la said,
and wielded the lash with the result
that Stevena wpa taken to a local hos
pital.
It Is stated the attack waa caused by
a letter written by Btevena lo one r.f
tha lady members of Captain Raid’s
