Tolbert at Falrmount.
The necro waa arrested at the

Policeman Logan had him sent to po
lice headquarters, and It developed
later that ha waa probably the one who
committed the horrtblo crime.
He wae taken to Calhoun this mora
ine by Deputy Sheriff Broach and
Deputy Marshall Harris.
The story of the arrest of the nerro

feared that he might have been
lynched.

- Cartersvllle, Go.. March 21.—When It
was reported that a negro had been
seen along the river near Canton, who
was believed to be the negro who en
tered the Tolbert home at Falrmount
and cruelly murdered thetr baby, the
searching party congregated In that
neighborhood where the search with
the aid of dogs contlnuea today.
Some little excitement wae created
at the station here yeaterday evening
when the southbound train on the W.
& A. arrived. A negro with side whisk
era was seen on the train and quick
ly the crowd rushed In and dragged
him off. The pHssengera all left the
train, expecting a lynching. The negro
establlahed hla Identity and waa turned
loose after he had been made to dis
pose of a bottle of whisky he carried

Scranton. Pa., In 1115. He enlisted os
a boy In the Sixth Pennsylvania cav
alry and served In some of the hardest
fought battles of the Civil war. He
was st Antletsm. Fredericksburg,
Stoneman’s raid. Cold Harbor and other
battles and skirmishes. He was a cap
tive for a brief period In l-lbby prison.
