Glvrn up fqr lost, the full score and
orchestra purls of Dr. Brown's opera
"lu. Oorslcanna." has been returned to
him by thr John Church Company, and
the mystery surrounding Its loss for
two years le as strange to the officials
of that company aa It Is to Dr. Browne
Just at a time n-hen hr had been
forced to belleva that the work of over
a year, much of It done by working all
night and all day, was lost forevsr, the
missing manuscript turned up. And
there la the mystery!
This opera waa composed by Dr.
Brown for the Milan comnatltlon in
Italy, and out of lit compositions from
composers all over the world, It re
ceived mention and waa seventh In the
Hat, the winner securing a prise of
110.000.
In June. John Lund, now the
musical director for Mlaa Fritsl Bcheff.
was In Ht. lands, and was In charge of
“The Alps" In that city, a feature of
thr big exposition that waa made per
manrnt.
Borrowed tha Score.
Mr. Lund wrote to Dr. Brown and
naked to borrow the full score and
orchestra parts of "La Corsicana" t,
produce at The Alps. Dr. Browne In
■tructed his publishers, the John
Church Company, to send a copy of
the full score and orchestra parts to
Lund. The original, he thought
too valuable to be sent from Cincin
nati to Bt. Louie. If lost. It could
never he composed again as It was
originally wrtttan.
Instead the John Church Company
sent tha original. Anri that waa the
laat seen until a few days ago.
A year ago Dr. Browns had occasion
to use this manuscript and he wrote
to the Church Company about It. To
his horror he found It had been sent
by them to Mr. Lund In Bt. Louis al
moat a vear before and had never been
returned. Dr. Browne thought tht
Church Company had It and the com-
pany officials thought Dr. Browne
mew where It waa.
Than began tha starch for the valu-
>le manuscript.
A Wild Sosas Chasa.
A lattar was written to Mr. Lund
He didn't know where the manuscript
waa. Ha said he had given It to hla
librarian to keep. Then letters wm
written to the librarian. He replied
that he had given It to the clerk of the
Hotel Jefferson to be given to -
Lund. *
But Mr. Lund never received It.
The Hotel Jefferson people knew
nothing about It. but said the clerk
the officials that hla Irrepable loss
was due to their sending the original
Instead of a copy aa he had directed.
He urged them to Institute a moat
thorough search over the country If
necessary.
They tried but their efforts were
fruitless.
For months and months Dr. Browne
heard nothing of his lost prlsr H*
gave up tht starch and became as rec.
onrlled as possible to his lots.
"Eureka" Said Brown*.
A few days ago he waa thrown Into
ecstasies of delight. He received this
singular letter from his friend. William
F. Collin*, manager of the publication
department of the John Church Com-'
pany:
"Dr. J. Lewis Browne. Atlanta, Oa.

Sherlock Holmee can not possibly un
ravel the Incomprehensible manner In
which the score and parts of Coral-
ranna were returned to us and found
In our basement. There are but two
certainties In the case: one. that they
were sent to Bt. Louis; two. that thay
were returned to us somt time and are
now In our possession. Olory be. Amen.
"FRATELLO QUOLIELMO.”
That's all Dr. Rrnwna knows about
That'a all Mr. Collins knows about
It. •
How this valuable manuscript man
aged to get from a Ht. Louis cellar and
pile of waste paper across tha country
into the basement of the John Church
Company In Cincinnati la the mystery.
But Dr. Browne la too happy to pon
der much about It. The ffndlng at this
time »f the manuscript Is fortunate,
for It was Dr. Browne's Intention to
have li played during tha June musical
festival at Ponce DeLeon.
Bo with Mr. Collins of the John
Church company, Dr. Browne says:
"Olory be."

package containing tha manuscript and
iad plaeqd tt on top of the safe In the
hotel office.
Back again to the hotel went the In
guinea. By this time Dr. Brown* was
losing hope. He became convinced
that the work of a year of days and
nlghu waa lost forever.
Finally, the hand porter remembered
the package. He said that shortly
after the clerk left the hotel, a general
house cleaning took place, and tha
package on top of the eat* had been
thrown In tha trash pile.
The last ray of hope Dr. Browne
held vanished. Ha gave up the search
of hla year's work. He offered large
rewards through a friend In Bt. Louis,
hut without result. Tha manuscript
had gone In the truth pile and had
probably been burned with the big
city's waste, gathered in cellars and on
Dr. Browne then got In behind the
