The shadow of waving palm* *u etched against tha horison of Christen, dom on Sunday and through the vault* •d arches of the world's splendid ca thedrals was heard the triumphant etralna of the Faure'e "PaJma," telling of the entrance Into Jerusalem of Christ the King. Across the pathway of the Christ, all strewn with palm brunches, begins to creep the weird, aolenin darkness of the cross, which will crown the summit of Calvary on Good Friday. Hut for one brief day the kingly glory of Earth's Hedeemer Is made manifest and waving palms and glad hosannahs proclaim the march of the Christ, which, begun at Jerusalem, lead, to the Judgment hull, and to the bit* | teraess of Golgotha. Orest congregations wended their se- I rlous way trom beautiful cathedrals through the busy streets of teeming cities on Sunday, carrying branches of palms, blessed by the hande of pious priests, and the on-looking world knew j that one of the tremendous epochs In the history of Christianity was being I fittingly observed by devout men. wom- »*n and children. The authority of two [of the greatest branches of the Chrts- ; tlan faith has Inld Its restraining hand upon the gay. pleasure-seeking world land has commanded that Holy Week shall be a period set aside for humilia tion and self-denial. This season of self-abasement Is bounded on one hand by graceful wav ing palm branches, on the other by the glory and beauty of Enster lilies, while lying between Is the gloom and the ehadow of the cross, which stands for the redemption of all mankind.
