at an advance of 6 points. Futures there
advanced as much as 7 points on near posi
tions. With regard to these spot sale*, it

Co.: Liverpool was due unchanged ro
1-2 lower on old and 1-2 advance on
new'. Opened steady 1 decline. At
12:15 p. m. quiet net 1 1-2 to S higher
on near and 1 to 1 1-2 advance on dis
tant. Spots In moderate demand at 5
points up; middling 6.12; sale# 14,000;
American 12,200; speculation and ex
port 1,000; Imports 10,000, Including
8,000 American.
Port receipts today estimated 16,000,
against 11,262 last year.
Liverpool prices steady. The same
narrow market continues with the pub
lic Indifferent We Ibok for a firmer
opening, but do not think prices will
hold unless the market becomes broad
er and more active. Reports Indicate a
steady demand for cotton goods with
prices firmer. This, we believe, the one.
bullish feature to an otherwise stag
nant situation.

Commenting on the English spot
strength, a local bear says: "1 can not
see anything to bull cotton on. If the
mills must have the higher grade cot
ton to spin they will simply have to pay
higher premiums. But why should this
boost futures when there Is such a
large amount of low-grade available
for contract delivery.?".
