In a peculiar way the need of a re form school or Industrial farm fo youthful negro criminals was eirtpha sized In the criminal division of thecltv court Friday morning, when the case of Fred Buchanan, aged 14 years, was railed for trial. April 12.—What Is ap parently another cotton theft has come to light and the police believe that they are now up against a gang of cotton thieves. For some time the Atlantic Compress Company has been missing a, bale of cotton at a time, and the other night another bale was missed. The police were notified and last night sev eral men laid In wait for the thieves. Along in the night a wagon was seen to drive up to the plutform of the com press and a bale dumped on. The wagon drove off and the men watching folowed. The wagon was seen to go in the direction of Wall street alley where the bale was dumped off. Macon, Ga„ April 12.—For the pur pose nf launching a movement to se cure the organization of a county po lice force, similar to that which Is maintained In Fulton and other coun ties, a mass meeting of the people In South Macon will be held next Thurs day evening. At this meeting plans will be made for a larger meeting of representatives from all the suburbs to be held at the county court house and to make plans for securing larger force for the protection of all the su burbs In .Macon. At present South •Macon and all the suburbs, which are beyond the distrlcla patrolled by the city, police, Imve practically no pifllcr protection. Willie pulling a root on a wood shed in the rear of his home, on Washington street In East Point, Thursday after noon, John D. Burks, agOd 5S years, and a deaf mute, lost hla balance and fell to the ground, sustaining Injuries from W’hich he died at 12 o'clock Thurs day night. The accident is supposed to have oc curred about 4 o'clock In the afternoon, as Mr. Burks was found lying upon the ground In an unconscious condition shortly after that hour. Dr. George TMmble. nf East Point, was hastily summoned to attend the Injured man, but In spite nf. the efforts of the phyal- elan he died a few hours later Without regaining consciousness. Mr. Burks Is survived by his wife, who Is also deaf and dumb, and by four daughters. The family had been living In East Point but a few months. The remains were taken tn charge by Harry G.
