The New York Commercial: The weak
ness noted In the cotton yarn market last
week continues and orders for small to me-
dlum-nlsed Iota are being accepted st con
cessions of %©%c per pound. This weak
coming to the market tn search of supplies.
In muuy Instances, the orders sent In, and
the demands of the manufacturer* now anx
ious to secure yarns, are of such a nature
that Helling ngetfts have been unable to
meet them.
Hmall wearing concerns are demanding
medium and fine count yarns. nu .. v .....
coarse counts they are refusing to operate
unless eren more marked concessions are
granted. Helling agents representing large
■pinning mills pare refused to Imok any
of these orders and are holding firmly to
prices which were quoted last week. Their
plants are fairly well supplied with or
ders sufficient, ft Is stated, to keep them
running well Into June. Until the mills
are In need of additional business, it Is not
expected that they will accept further, or
ders st a sacrifice of prices.

trained to count on price Improvement
when the weather map shows unsea
sonable frost anywhere In the belt and
the bears tell of rapidly diminishing
supplies, yesterday's cotton market was
a disappointing affair. However, noth.
Ing developed to change the general
attitude or to alter professional opinion
unless It be the character of the uni
form news bearing upon the May
position at New York, which Is said
to be "sewed up,” In great shape by
a long interest reported prepared to
take up the cotton. The local talent,
however, Is not yet sure the big Issue
will not be side-stepped at the psycho,
logical moment. Port stocks are not,-
well under the corresponding record
for the big crop year. Of the Na.w
Orleans atock probably less than 50,000
bales remain unsold In factors' hands,
and of that remnant a very large por
tion, estimated about as high as nfty
per cent untenderable. Reactionary
tendencies are apparent at Uverpool,
but the. magnitude of the dally spot
turnover suggests plenty of Inherent
strength to fall back on. Thus the
situation, by no really fresh Influence
and subject to the now well understood
relations of supply and demand and
to the character of the new crop weath
