Carteravllle, Go., April 27.—A cam paign for prohibition has been actively launched In Bartow county and the fight against the whisky Interests will be brought on os soon as the petitions that are now being circulated can be returned to the ordinary of the county. For more than twenty years the city of Carterevllle and county of Bartow have been In the "dry" columns of tho Georgia counties and towna, although by a decision of the supreme court of Ihe state there Is no law against the sale of whisky In this county. The sen timent of the people has been the only barrier to open saloons, and during the life-time of Rev. Sam Jones that senti ment was ao strong tutd no pronounced that few people thought It necessary to secure a re-openlng of the quoatlon. However, since the recent declalon uf the court of appeals, declaring the local option law for Bartow county uncon stitutional and the demise of the evan gelist, the prohibitionists have con cluded that they will no longer depend upon the unexpressed sentiment of the people to keep liquor out of the county. Judge A. W. Fite, Judge of the Chero kee circuit, and Hon. W. J. Neel, rep resentative from Bartow county In the coming general assembly, are both working for the election. W. tf. BAKER FREE OF ANY BLAME Recently In reporting the decision of the supreme court In the case of R. 51. Rose Company against Bartow county. Inadvertency an injustice was done a well-known and reputable citizen of Carteravllle. Tha statement was made that W. F. Baker, agent of the Southern Express Company at CartersvUls, had been con victed In connection with the Rone cane. Thle was not true, aa Mr. Baker .was not convicted. He It considered one of the most reputable and law-abiding dt- liens of Carteravllle, and The Georgian cheerfully corrects the error, which arose through an obscurity tn the court records. tlve.
