IMPORTANT FACTORS IN ROME’S MATERIAL PROGRESS LANHAM & SONS COMPANY GREAT DEPARTMENT STORE Nothing more significantly or con spicuously stamps Rome's progressive- nets than her Imposing business houses, lVlth every old landmark obliterated, the Hill City takes another step for ward toward building the commercial, and the city beautiful. The transformation scene at the old Norton corner Is a gratifying town top- |c, and Mr. J. II. Lanham Is dally con gratulated upon the handsome building he has so successfully erected and equipped. . There can not be found In the South a more commodious, convenient or mod ern store house than the splendid new home of Lanham & Sons Co., eorner of Broad street and Fourth avenue. It Is up to date In every respect, broad, light, well ventilated as to the building quali ties, and by way of the stock carried, Is a model department store, where all things needful In merchandise can be purchased reasonably. \ To give some Idea of the size of this emporium that covers 64x132 feet, there Is nearly 30,060 square feet of floor space In three stories and between the aisle outlined with Iw show cases a vast Influx of peopl" can easily be handled. There are no dark corners, for from transom windows of Prism glass on the two ends and one side of the building, a perfect flood of light radiates and Is re flected against the spotless steel celling, even to the I'emotest part of the store. By night great arc lights cast electric rays there, whoso whiteness rival the sunlight In brilliancy. A point well considered by the care ful builder In the erection of this spa cious bulldTng Is, It Is absolutely fire proof. Indeed, the structure MORIS than measured up to the exacting re quirement of the Southern Tariff Asso ciation. In modem equipment the store .is par excellence and every convenience for the trading public and method to expedite shopping—which Is sometimes Irksome —la a part of the admirable equlppage.
