Melodrama Succeeds
Music at Popular
House.
T HE nttnictlon at the Bijou for next
week, beginning Monday night, will
Ik* Hal Reid'* story of rural life,
“The Night Before Christina*." The
scenes are laid in and around Xenia. Ohio,
and the character* are drawn from the peo
ple and (dime that bus given, the eouutry
ho many of Its great statesmen and sol
diers.
The story Is of a young man, son of n
prominent Judge, who Is sowing bis wild
oats. Ills waywardness Is not as great
ns his father imagines, and he Is sent Into
the country to his grandmother, whose
good Influence, It la hoped, will reform
him. The son falls In love with a pretty
country girl of doubtful parentage, and
through Ida love for this young woman he
unit* drinking. On Christmas eve, while
the I toys and girls are decorating the
ehureh for Christmas service, Bud Means
enters and Insults Marlon. Jack retaliates,
and the two men go Into the ehureh yard
and tight. Jack forcing Means to apologize.
As Means leaves the church yard he
meets a tramp, who proves to Ik* the hus
band of the woinau he Imd rulucd years
previous, and the tramp kills Menas. Jack
and Marion enter and tlnd Means' body.
Circumstances point to Jack being the mur
derer^* Ho Is arrested, and his father Is
forced to try him In his own court; the
Jury convicts him, and the father pro
nounces the seuteuco of death.
The Inst net shows the governor’s man
sion. Judge Phillips has been olecti*d gov
ernor nnd sworn Into office. The governor
refuses to pardon his own son, ami, on
the eve of Ids execution, the warden
Itrlugs the sou to the capltol In order that
he may sny good by to bis family. Just at
this moment the tramp ap|>ear* nnd con
fesses to the murder. The *pn Is set free
and ull ends happily. * ,
The attraction carries some beautiful
scenic and mechnnlcnl effects, nnd. ns a
whplc. It should prove a very pleasing
offering.

ing ot the.park on the night of May 15
there will be given another funcy dress
skating carnival.
When tlie rink was opened for the
year In March there was given In this
rink one of the largest and most suc
cessful carnivals ever held In the
South, ft Is In response to demands
that thla carnival be repealed that the
management hoa derided to do so.
N«w thar'warm weather Is nt hand,
the chunces are that the carnival this
time will eclipse even that former bril
liant record. Manager Stewart Is now
at work on the program for the even
ing and the list of prises to bo offered
for this night. The full details of all
of these plans anil arrangements will
be announced later. Located ns It Is

looks this naturally beautiful pleasure

crowded with the devotees of this In
vigorating pastime.
The Twin Theater.
One of the most novel and diversi
fied bills ever offered at any moving
picture theater will be that presented
at the Twin Theater on Whitehall afreet
on Monday and Tuesday. In response
to the demands of the regular patrons
of this little theater, n special bill has
been arranged. The llrst picture play
to be presented will be "Tho Burglar
nnd the Dentist.” This will show on
encounter between .a cracksman and
the man who does “tho painless act."
The second will be chc ”Car«r of a
Judge.” The third picture play will
show "Tho Sculptor's Model,” and is
pronounced by those who have seen
this film In other cities to be one of
th» most striking ever enught by a

Stuart Hobson, has been selected as the
opening hill by the George Fawcett Htock
Company, which begins It* summer season
at the Grand on May ITT.
This play Is one of the strongest, nnd,
nt the some time, liest hits of American
otnedy ever presented. It was the fore
miner of “The Pit” nml “Friday the Thlr-
eenth," and other strong stoilcs written
around high finance.
The stock company which will present
this play Is one of the Itest known In
the country, nnd when It reaches Atlanta,
a week liefnre the opening date, there
will Ik* brought with It, In addition to a
strong stock cast, a uumlH*r of scenic paint
ers and decorators, who will prepare the
scenery for each play. Iu this way. a
finished tone will w* given to each offer
ing, no matter how varied the repertoire
may be.
Just who the leading lady for this sum
mer stock company , will be has not yet
boon decided. Miss Grace Kimball, who
was seen here several years ago, ami who
counts her admirers here by tho score. Is
