wood avenue and Ashby street.
Out of 110 lots on the plat, >0 were
sold within the time between 1:10 and
t:J0 o'clock, the total sale netting 215.-
000. Two lots were given away. F. D.
Thaxton, No. 00 Lovejoy street, drew
lot No. 10 In block No. 1, on Glendale
avenue. He held ticket No. <7. Mrs.
1. TV. Morgan, No. 240 Central avenue,
drew lot No. 11, block No. t, Glendale
avenue. She held ticket No. lot.
The Turman Company furnished two
special cars to carry out prospective
buyers, and each car had 12t people
aboard. The street car company sup.
piled two brand new cars for the pur
pose.
Scores went out In buggies and auto
mobiles. An unusually large number of
ladles were In attendance. Mr. J. W.
Ferguson was the auctioneer, and his
witty sallies and ready replies won him
great applause. Between six and seven
hundred people were present, and the
bidding was sharp, showing that the
crowd came to Invest and not through
idle curiosity.
Many who purchased signified their
Intention of building at once, and It is
predicted thit this section will build up
rapidly with good comfortable homes.

The eecond day of the convention
Wednesday was largely attended and
several Interesting papers were read by
members of the society. Dr. P. E. Cal
lahan, of McRae, presented an Interest
ing paper on "Physiology.” This was
followed by ono by Dr. W. C. Miller,
of Augusta, on "Dental Education In
Public Schools." Especially Interesting
was this paper and It urged the ne
cessity of Instructing the school pupils
In the care of the teeth. Dr. Miller
told of a lecture given to the Augusta
school children and how beneficial It
proved to them In later years.
Dr. John R. Greer, of Marietta, fol
lowed Dr. Miller with a paper on
Anatomy,” and Dr. T. C. Gibson,of For
syth. had for his subject "Some
Thoughts on Cohesive Gold Fillings. 1
Tho morning session was concluded by
a paper from Dr. W. H. Weaver, of La-
Grange, on “Success." •
Because of the meetings of the Ma
sons there was no nfternoon session.
On Thursday at » .o'clock the clinics
will begin, after which tHo election of
officers wilt be held. In the afternoon
tho visitors will be entertained and
shown over the city.

It la highly probable that the recom
mendation by the mayor that the city
engineer and the commissioner of pub
lic works be elected by the council will

To do this, an amendment to the city
charter muet be secured. A resolu
tion asking for such an amendment,
will probably be returned to council by

Mr. H. F. Cary gave up a small posi
tion a few years ago to study short
hand. After graduating, Mr. Crichton
placed him In a position with the
Southern railroad. Ho was recently
appointed Assistant General Passenger
Agent of the Southern, with offices at
1200 Pennsylvania avenue, Washington,
D. C.

Huntsville. Ala, May 4.—Despondent
over III health, M. J. Corvln, an aged
Confederate soldier, suicided at Dellas
Village here last night
He sent a pistol bullet through hts
heart, dying almost Instantly.

Huntsville, Ala, May 9.—The post-
office at Deposit. Ala., waa robbed last
night and 540 In cash and a quantity
of stamps taken. There Is no clew to
the robbery.

I have been handed a copy of your
Issue of May 2 which- contains an arti
cle from Rochelle, Ga, giving an ac
count of the murder of my son, G. C.
Nasworthy, and the Wounding of his
brother, F. 8. Nasworthy, by their
brother-in-law, W. B. Harrison, and I
want you to allow mo space to giro a
detailed account of the tragedy.
The boys were at their own home,
Instead of the home of Harrison, as the
article referred to stated. The crime
was committed about 10 o'clock In the
morning.
While the boys were plowing In their
own field. Harrison secrotcd lilmself at
the end of tho rows they were plowing
on and when they got In about 20 feet
of the end he opened Are on them from
his hiding place, which was a dense
g lum orchard. When he flred on tho
oys both their horses ran away and
tore up the plows.
Harrison had gone to five different
places trying to borrow a gun and tell
ing different stories to secure one with
which to commit his crime. He Anally
fell upon one that succeeded. Going
to the home of R. W. King, about Avo
miles from where he did the killing,
nnd Andlng Mr. King away, ho told
Mrs. King he had found a den of rattle
snakes, some as large as his leg. near
her son's Acid, and wanted a gun to
kill them with. (After much persua
sion, she let him have tho gun, which
was a Marlin rifle, containing only two
cartridges.
Harrison missed the flrst shot, then
shot ono of tho boys through the arm,
and taking tho gun ho beat the other
boy to death.
Harrison has evaded arrest up to
now. He leaves q wife and three little
rlrls for us to take care of,
Harrison Is near six feet tall, weighs
about 155 pounds, dark complextoned,
black eyes anil black hair, low fore
head, but hair stands up. and waa
clean shaven when last seen.
A reward of 1100 has been offered by
the Nasworthys and an effort Is being
made to got Governor Terrell to In
crease It.
The young man that was killed was
very bright, promising fellow,. and
had many friends. He waa burled at
Pitts, Ga, when there was a large

Dallas, Texas, May 9.—The Ann!
chapter In the tragedy at Fort Worth
on March 22, when County Attorney
McLean was kilted and Deputy Sheriff
Scott received wounds from which he
died six weeks later, and at which time
Bill Thomason, a gambler, was shot and
killed by officers, waa written a few
days ngo at Ballenger, Texas, when
Mrs, Thomason, wife of the gambler,
passed away. According to the physi
cians, she died from a broken heart.
Plant Resumes Operation.

Sparta, Ga., May The Georgia
Rough and Cut Stone Company, with
hendquarters In Augusta have been
awarded contracts which have made It
necessary for them to again open up
their plant at this place. A few years
ago this concern, which Is one of the
largest In the state, was forced to shut
down their plant on account of the
scarcity of work throughout this sec
tion.

Washington, Ga, May 9.—Hambrlck
Hill and Jim Parks, two negroes, were
caught Monday night In the act of
breaking Into the store of Wilkinson,
Bolton A Co., at Tlgnall. They were
brought to Washington Tuesday, tried
that nfternoon before Judge Holden, of
the Wilkes superior court, convicted
and commenced the sentence Imposed
by the court In about twelve hours
from the time they wete caughtr The
village of Tlgnall had experienced sev.
eral bold robberies during the past six
months and the citizens determined
that the burglars should bo apprehend
ed. bo a nightly watch waa Instituted,
with tho result that Hill and Parks
were caught.
