last session of Wilkes superior court,
which was convened in this city the
first week In May.
A motion for the continuance of the
caae was -accordingly granted and
May 27 wua fixed aa the date for the
trial.
Hon. F. -H. Colley, of Washington,
will be the leading counsel for the de
fense, while the rrnsecutlon will be
conducted by Solicitor D. W. Meadow
aaalsted by Hon. W. A. Blaton, of the
local bar.
The prosecution. It Is understood, will
seek to show that there was malice In
the act of Cain In that he had once
been Infatuated with Miss Alice Parks
and when aha allowed her preference
for the company of John Hlx, Cain be
came enraged over the matter and shot
Hlx. it was whlls visiting Miss Parks
and while tho two were sitting In a
room at Atlas Parks' home talking, that
Cain entered, and, commanding Hlx to
leave at once, pulled out hla pistol and
allot him to death.
Tha defense.. It la. said, will seek to
thow that prior to tho act, Cain had
been drinking exceaatvoly and was suf
fering from the effects at the time of
the tragedy.

on suspicion of being the assassin of
little Amelia Staffeldt.
Following Breckers' remarkable con
fession that he witnessed the murder
of the girl at the hands of a newly-
found acquaintance. Captain McCsf-
ferty made preparations today for an
Infallible test.
The knife, blood-stained, has finger
nnd thumb prints on It. The police will
reproduce these In wax and then com
pare them - with the lines In young
Breckers' fingers and thumb.

conclusion of the singing of the song,
"Blessed be the Tie that Binds,” Mod
erator J. R. Howerton yesterday after
noon at 5:10 o'clock pronounced the
benediction on the close of the forty-
seventh general assembly of the South
ern Presbyterian church. The dele
gates began Immediately leaving for
their homes.
The general assembly will meet In
Greensboro, N. C., In 1808.
The general assembly named Its rep
resentatives In council, proposed under
the terms of the articles of agreement
which were adopted. Tne report of the
special committee of five was adopted
without any change.

other suburban*municipalities Friday
night, when at a meeting of her eltl-
sens, the motion to apopint a committee
of three to make negotiations with At
lanta’a executive committee on city ex
tension, waa pasted.
The following will composed the com
mittee from the thriving little munici
pality: R. F. Thompson, J. D. Hum
phries and E. G. Little.
The meeting was held In tho Baptist
church of East Point, and the question
of extension was thoroughly discussed.
R. F. Thompson wns elected chair
man,’nnd W. Toni Callaimn. secretary.
In a few words, J. D. Humphries stated
the purpose of the meeting, and In
troduced Councilman E. W. Martin,
of Atlanta.
Councilman Martin spoke forcefully
on the question, giving clearly the
benefits which will be derived by At
lanta and East Point by the extension.
The cttlsens of Brookwood held
meeting at the home of Eugene
Black Friday night, fifty-one being
present. The sentiment was inucllc.il-,
ly solid against the annexation of
Brookwood to Atlanta.
A committee, with A. G. Rhodes as
chairman, waa appointed to explain to
the Atlanta committee the reaaona why
the brookwood cltlxena protested
against the extension.
