service aggregate 14 years, escaped
from the Spalding county chahigang
Monday, and up to last night he had
not been captured. Young was about
55 years of age and, being cook, was
allowed many privileges about the
camp. Monday afternoon he succeeded
In freeing hlmeelf from tho shackles
and fled In cltlsen's clothing.

Alderman Curtis' ordinance, calling
for the election by the people of certain
officials now elected by council was
the main toplo of discussion at the or
dinance committee meeting Tuesday
afternoon.
Tho ordinance calls for the election
of the following by the people; City
clerk, city marshal, general manager
waterworks, building Inspector, comp
troller, Are chief, city electrician, health
officer, recorder, license inspector, street
Improvement collector, city warden,
tax assessors, superintendent of public
schools and ward physicians.
Alderman Curtis spoke at length In
favor of hla ordinance, urging the com
mittee, if there waa any objection to
one of the officers mentioned being
elected by the people, not to completely
kill It.
The alderman Insisted that the peo
ple were quell fled to pass on these of
ficers, and that It was they who should
choose their own servants.
Tbo ordinance was laid aalde, with
out any action being taken.
