from the French achooner Mlmpsa, St.
Malo, waa picked up by the Cunarder
Campania, 100 miles off shore, yester- :
day. ■
Vollet had so far recovered that ha
waa able to land when the steamer
docked here today. Vollet and one
companion separated from the schoon
er In a snowstorm, but his companion
waa swept overboard and drowned. The
passengers of ths Campania raised a
substantial purse for the survivor.
PREACHER WHIPPED

Fulton, Ky., June It.—Rev. F. Haw
ley, pastor of the First Presbyterian
rhurch of this city, was stripped and
horsewhipped at midnight Monday
night by W. W. Meadows, a leading
capitalist, and driven from the city
under threats of death.
Mrs. Meadows a few days ago filed
.. petition for divorce, alleging enu"
Hev. Hawley was publicly denoun
by Mr. Meadows os the wrecker of his
home. Hawley left the city. When It
became known that the preacher was
expected home Monday night. Meadows
and a small party of prominent ‘citi
zens met him.

Holmes had Invsated *10,000 In an
apartment house In Washington, and
Howard B. Preston, president of the
Preston Farming Company, of North
Dakota, that In 1905 Holmes had paid
*40,510 for stock of that company, Mr.
Baker explaining that It would be
shown that this money had been ob
tained as a result of tho dlvulgence of
Information.

county site of Irwin county from Irwln-
