dceperale light between officers on one
side and negroes on the other has Just
reached Meridian from Mehan Junction,
twelve miles west of Meridian, one of
the officers being shot twice, once
through each wrist, while the other
was stabbed In the back by a negro
woman.

River Milling Company, composed of
Captain Seaton, Grantland Alderman,
Mark J. Jones, Miss Leila Grantland

prevent public calamities such as have
been going on In politics for the last
decade. He further said:

tomorrow change things and give us
throughout the length and breadth of
the country a tariff for the benefit and
upbuilding of the people or exercise Its
power to give us a monetary system of
1* to 1.
"Following this, I have a right to
assert that I am standing before the
greatest power and force that can be In
the United States of America. Then
If you possess this Influence, If you
can change scepter for the banner of
the republic, If you can bring a bless
ing or a curse In the country In which
you live, how great Is the responsibility

truder and the latter dropped the suit
cast and fled. Policeman Tuggle was
pasting the place at the time, and. no

he gave his name as Charlie Jones. He

the United Statea supreme court In the
lumber rate case Tnean the refunding
of hundred* of thousand* of dollars by
the railroads Involved to Georgia saw
mill men, but It will mean a anug for
tune In the shape of a tee for an At
lanta Arm of attorneys.
Ellis. Wlmblah & Ellis, the Arm
which had charge of the saw mill In
terests, will receive In the neighbor
hood of 8100,000 for the services they
rendered.
There are about a million dollars
worth of claims against the railroads
growing out of the declelon and while
all of these claim* are not In the hands
of the firm, a lerge part of them are,
and already there sre enough to war
rant a fee of about 8100,000. If all the
claims of aomethlng like a million dol
lars are placed In the hands of this Arm
for collection, the fee will Jump to
about 1160,000.

up to the water board Thuraday aft

A meeting haa been called for

Woodward haa addressed a communi
cation to the board, In which tha con
ditions are fully set forth.
Colonel Woodward aaya that either
the presaure on the pumps must be In
creased from 110 to 130, which la above
their guarantee and may result In their
breaking, or tho reservoir must bo
abandoned.
In the latter case, the water will bo
muddy. Whatever action Is recom
mended by the board will go Into ef
fect either Friday or Saturday.
The board will meet Jointly with the
apeclal committee from council, and
mattere relative to tho expenditure of
the bond money will be discussed. The
report of the expert on hydraulic
pumps has not been received.
