Go., June 27.—Until the eighth inning Macon and Augusta were playing a tie game, when the visitors took a brace and bumped in three runs, winning the game. Harley for Macon and Sparks for Augusta were both hit hard. Bender succeeded in landing another yesterday for a home run. and completed the bases without anyone ahead of him. Charleston is in Macon for three games, commencing today, and unless the locals take on a good stiff brace they will wake up to the fact that they are sliding down the cellar door at a great rate of speed. Gua Lenny, a Boston boxer, was un conscious for ten hours the other night after being knocked out nt the Long Acre Club, In tills city. The doctors at Bellevue hospital, where Lenny was taken after tfce light, said that only his grand physical con dition kept him alive, and had he not been a trained athlete he might now be In the hands of the coroner. The fight promoters' might take a Up from this case and In the future re fuse to allow any untrained man to ap pear nt any of their bouts. They are not the most particular people In the world these msnagers. und many a night at their shows have put on boys who looked as though they were prime for a killing. Thanksgiving turkeys have nothing on a lot of the members who appear In some of tha bouts. The llttls fellows are usually trim persons In great shape, but the bigger they are the poorer the condltloh usually Is. In some cases the welter and heavy weights look moro like sacks of mush than fighters, and besides taking a chance with their lives Invariably put up such bad exhibitions Ihnt the au dience Is disgusted after one round or so. In the swell clubs out West such as the Olympic, a doctor Is always In attendance to pass upon the fighters. If a boy has a weak heart. Is not trained properly, or I* In any other way unfit to perforin, he Is told to dress and go home. If a doctor passes uron a boy nnd then ths latter Is hurt, the responsibility goes upon tlio shoulders of tho examining physician. Do the locnl clubs Insist that boxers pass a physical examination? If they do, most of the medicos must be horse doctors or nro expert In the corn busi ness, because some ot the specimens they pass nt bouts look as though a good platter of stew or u long run might kill them. Another little kick, please. Referees are a bit too lenient here In bouts. Two boys are In a ring to box four rounds. The referee Is to allow thorn to box until It la clear "beyond a reasonable doubt" that ono Is the mas ter of the other. It Isn't necessary that one should cut the other all up, break IUb nose, drive him front post to post and drop him time after time to prove that he Is the better man. After a boy Is dropped once nr twice nnd shows signs of a break up It would be Just ns -well for the referee to split them up nnd send them to their respective corners. Tho members would be Just ns ■ sntlsfied, nnd there would be no chance of an accident. This Lenny boy who was hurt had his hands at his side the other night when ho was walloped. A defenseless boy should never be allowed to continue. He Is beaten end the referee should etop It.—New York Journal. of Major Lewis E. Goodier, of the De partment of the Gulf. "Chet” Goodier, as he Is known to his Intimate friends, has been rowing at Cornell for a num ber of years, but this Is tho first time he has bcJn In tho 'vurslty eight. Last year he was stroke of tho 'varsity four, which won out In line fashion. This year he has been rowing at No. 7 In the eight-oared shell. Tills Is his last year at Cornell, as ho graduates In a few days. Another son of Major Goodier Is captnln of the Tech track team, and win he mnnager of the Yellow Jacket football brigade next fall. MILLEDGEVILLE WINS. Special to The Georgian. Mtlledgevllle, June 27.—Mllledge- vllle took the third game In the week's aerie* with Boy»' High SchooL Atlanta, by a score of 5 to 3 here today. The game waa the fastest that has been played on the local diamond this season, the whole nine Innings occu pying but one hour and twenty min utes. Gray, the star twtrler for Locust Grove Institute In the Georgia Prey League, was In the box for the locals, while Cape did the slab work for B. II. T. Both men were In good form nnd Id line work. Gray held B. H. 8.'e ard hitters down to three hits. Cape gave up seven. At the finish Gray had IS atrlke-outs to hla credit, with 3 for Cape. E. Reynolds' drive for two bases In tho fourth Inning and Blalock's phe nomenal left-hand catch of a line drive at second base that looked good for two bases, were features. The fielding of B. IL 8. was excellent. Every player handled himself well and cov ered hla territory thoroughly. They took the hardest chances without a bobble, and tlylr throwing was quick ami true. The Atlanta boys are a gentlemanly set of young fellows, who play hard, clean ball and make friends right and left. They are dead game, coming up smiling after a defeat, and playing as steadily when luck U running against them as when the score shows them a good lead. They have quite captured the town by their splendid bearing and gentlemanly behavior.
