July B.-^-Charged with obtaining money under false pretenses by conducting a fake automobile speed contest, Barney Oldfield, the famous automobile racer, was placed under ar rest yesterday. The complaint was made by a locAl paper, which asserts that yesterday’s contests In this city were not legitimate. Oldfield’s business manager, T. A. Morse, Is being sought by the police. In its issue last night, the paper as serts that Oidfleld and his manager used the name of a local automobile club for the purpose of gaining pres tige without the sanction of the club, and that tho promoters of the race meet offered a card of races when they knew none of the entries listed Intended to participate. .
