are now being made for the coming of
O. P. LeVert, of Atlanta, who will de
liver an addreaa In this city the latter
part of the month. Mr. LeVert Is com
ing to Macon at the Invitation of the
Confederate soldiers of this city. The
old soldiers are vrry anxious to erect a
new monument In front of the city hall,
and the proceeds of this lecture will go
toward the erection of tho new Confed
erate monument.

Macon, Oa., July 6.—The body of nn
unknown white man was found /ester-
day In the Oemulgee rlyer. From all
appearances the man had been In the
water for at least two woelts gnd pos
slbly longer. On examination by the
coroner the Jury brought ' In a verdict
of drowning.
No papers of any kind could be found
on his person to Indicate as to who he
wss or where lie was from. Hundreds
people reviewed the remains In
p4s that possibly they might cast
some light on the Identity of the man,
but nona of those who eaw the man
could give any clew as to his Identity.

light nnd water contracts are to be
opened Tuesday, July 9. According to
the recent action of tile city council In
allowing tho bidding companies further
time to investigate the existing condi
tion* these bhla may be opened on
the 18th of the month that tut extra
month waa allowed. These bhla will
hardly be opened on Tueadny, but will
be carried over until the following
week. Far the last three weeks the
companies that are to present bids for
the new contracts for furnishing wa
ter and light to the city have been
busy figuring on the coat* and by this
time their figures should be almost In
presentnble shape.

Joint committee from the city and
county Friday morning, Councilman
Martin offered a resolution In council
Friday afternoon asking the legislature
to authorize a 8800,009 bond Issue to
pay the city's part of the proposed
combination city hall and court house,
nnd the resolution was adopted unani
mously.
When the legislature haa passed the
necessary charter amendment, council
will then set a date for the bond elec
tion, and It will be up to the people to
eay whether or not they desire the

meeting of the board of commissioners
this week, the taxable valus of the
property of Spalding county was esti
mated at 35,000,000,' an Increase of
1160,000 over last year. Thle does not
Include public utilities, which are not
returned, on the county digest: The
tax levy waa restored from five to elx
mills on the dollar.

It was ordered that both restraining
orders Issued by Judge Speer remain
as temporary Injunctions. The motion
to dissolve the restraining order In fa

Macon, Ga.. July 6.—Valentine Kahn,
aged 88 year*, who for a number of
years was a resident ot thle elty, died
In New York city, where he wai visit

settlers of Macon and for a number of

this ctly. He left Macon about two
ears ago and since that time has been
traveling about the country visiting his
children. He Is survived by eight
children, Mrs. Edgar Mayer, Mrs. Hen
ry Kramer, Norton Kahn and Edgar
Kahn, all of New York city, and Mrs.
Jake Henlger, Lee Kahn. Mayer Kahn
and Felix II. Kahn, of Texas.
The remains will reach this city some
time Saturday and the funeral services
will be held Sunday morning at the
Jewish Synagogue, Rev. Harry Wstsc
officiating. The interment will be made
