At a meeting Wednesday of tho audi torium-armory committee on plans, hold In the office of tho Chamber of Commerce, It was decided to adver tlso at once for bids for the construc tion of the big building. As soon as a bid Is accepted, actual work will be gin. Bids will be asked for by the Archi tects, Morgan & Dillon, the committee leaving this matter in their hands. Separate bids will be Invited on all details of the work. Architect Mor gan, who waa present at the fleet ing. said he thought he would be able to have the bids ready for the com mittee by the first part of August. The suggestion was made that the county might be Induced to do the excavating for the building with county convicts, and thus save ft considerable sum of money. Robert P, Maddox, a member of the committee, and also a member of the county board, stated, however, that he thought this Imprac ticable, owing to the great amount of work already on hand by the county. The meeting was presided over by Vic© Chairman (Mark Howell, In tho absence of Chairman James R. Gray. In addition to Messrs. Howell and Mad dox, W. T. Gentry was also present. Chief Injured Fighting Fire Special to The Georgian. Jackson, Miss., July 10.—In a fire at the local plant of the Armour Packing Company this morning, 4,000 pounds of meat were destroyed. Chief Watters, of the fire department, was badly scalded and physicians fear that he will die. One side of his body Is affected. Watters was formerly a member of the Atlanta fire department.
