Macon, Ga., July 15.—Because he an
swered the description of another man
and was arrested and lodged in jail, O.
B. Russell, of Coweta county, has filed
suit against J. L. Brown, sheriff of that
county; George B. Robertson, sheriff
of Bibb; Deputy Sheriff Tom Jones,
John W. Callaway, now foreman of the
street force, and Warren Johnson, a
member of the Macon police force,
claiming $10,000 damages.
Last September Russell was arrested.
A full description of the man wanted
was sent out and Russell filled the de
sertption, but It later turned out that ho
w*a the wrong than.

Macon, Ga., July 15.—This morning
the July term of the superior court was
opened at 10 o'clock, but little business
was transacted and no criminal work
will be taken up until Monday, July 29.
No civil business will come before the
July term except uncontented divorce
suit* and charters will be granted If
prepared. The criminal calendar will
not be made up until the coming week.
There will be no grand Jury drawn for
tho July term.

them is much work to be done. The

Mrs. Ella Hulsey Bawtell, wife of the
late H. C. Bawtell, died Sunday after
noon at 1 o’clock ut her residence, 811
Formwalt street. Sho was 59 years of
age and had lived her entire life In thl.
city. She had been confined to her bed
for the past live months, and her death
tvne a particularly sad one, following
that of her husband only a short time.
Mrs. Bnwtcll Is survived by six chil
dren, Mlsse* Oma, Sue and Augusta
Bawtell, Mr*. R. R. Lokey, of Ripley,
Ohio; II. H. Bawtell, of New York, and
Albert Sawtell, She also leaves a sis
ter, Mrs. Adda Hulsey, of Atlanta, and
a brother, J. J. Hulsey, of Decatur, On.
The funeral services will be conduct
ed Tuesduy morning at U o’clock at
the residence.

Jap Immigrants Arrested.
Ban Antonio, Texas, July 15.—The
Immigration Inspectors at Laredo, on
the Mexican border, have arrested five
more Japanese near Green Station,
making their way Into the state
through the brush. This makes fifteen
In all that have recently been arrested.
All of them will be sent In charge of an
officer to San Francisco for deportation
to Japan.
Inasmuch as the different ward com
mlttees of the’Fulton County Antl-Sa
loon League are not bringing out any
prohibition* candidates, It would seem
that the candidates now In the field
have pledged themselves to see to the
roper enforcement of Ihe prohibition
law If the bill now pending before the
legislature is passed.
Ever/ilnce the league organised, sev
eral nights ago, and elected Hon. Jas.
L. Mayson, city attorney, as president,
things have been humming in city pol
itics in wards where before everything
was as quiet and peaceful as dull and
uneventful summer days could make it.
There were a number of unopposed
candidates. The league got after them,
In other wards there was opposition,
but slleifce was kept on the whisky
question. All the league wanted *
know was this:
"Whether you are a prohibitionist
not; will you. If elected to council, see
to the proper enforcement of tho pro
hibition law' if the bill now pending
the legislature Is passed?”
Race Is Warming.
The race Jor council Is warming up,
Candidates can, not pay their entrance
fees after July 25 at noon, and after
July 27 the registration books will
close. The, primary will be held on
August 7, so the day that will tell the
tale Is not far In tbe future.

Third Ward—Alderman J. Sid Hoi
land retires. To succeed him Charles
L. Chosewood, now r serving in council,
and Frank Pittman, former building
Inspector, are the announced candi
dates. Dr. J. W. Mitchell hns been
considering making the race. To sue
ceed Mr. Chosewood as councilman
from the Third, Alderman J. Sid Hoi
land, C. P. Bentley and J. C. Harrison
are the candidates.
Fourth Ward—Alderman Joseph
Illrsch retires. Councilman
Pomeroy Is a candidate. He has no
opposition and will have none,
succeed Major Pomeroy In council, 13,
Lee Smith and W. G. Sands are as
plrlng.
Fifth Ward—Councilman Stev
Glass retires. W. T. Winn and H. L.
Mayhew are the candidates.

Taylor retires. Henry S. Jackson and

road to the proponed slto of the meat-
iarklng plant is now practically as-

practically agreed to report In favor
of It.
The plant will be constructed at Swift
Creek, on the bank of the Octnulgee
river, near the Swift Creek distillery
plant.
A giant slaughter pen Is planned to
be constructed In connection with the
plant, and thla will go very rar, It I, be
lieved, toward settling the meat ques
tion In this section of the state. A large
cold storage plant will also be con
structed to preserve the meat of the
plant, and nleo as a storage for fruits

mine owners. The end of the trial may
said to l»e within measuring distance.
The state of Idaho, through Its retire
sentatlve counsel, will argue to the jury

story Is true and-that there did exist the
Idesprcad conspiracy to terrorise what Is
