ASK AID DF STATE
FOR HEROES' GRAVES
Mrs. R. L. Nesblt, president of the
Ladles' Memorial Association of Ma
rietta, has addressed a personal letter
to every member of the house and
tenate and state house officials, urging
an appropriation to care for the Con
federate cemetery In Marietta.
Georgia has accepted this sac rod.
trust, and Mrs. Nesb(t believes It Is
the duty of the lawmakers to make
provision to care for these graves,
for years the ladles of Marietta have
cared f<g the 3,000 graves with such
means as they could command by hard
work and heroic sacrifice.
Representative Foster, of Cobb, has
already introduced a bill in the house
providing for an appropriation for this
purpose. Senator E, P. Dobbs will
fend every assistance possible to the
movement. The 8,000 Confederate dead
in .Marietta were removed from other
battlefields by state enactment, yet for
forty-odd years Georgia has done
nothing to care for the cemetery.

Louisville, Ky„ July 17.—In an Inter,
view last night Colonel Watterson said:
"The chief trouble In the Democratic
party Is Its lack of unity. It represents
two branches, the radicals so-called,
and the conservatives, so-called, of the
North, projected from a huge trunk,
known as the solid South. In three
presidential elections, while the South
has stood firm to Its guns, the two
Northern branches have steadfastly re
fused to vote for one another.
"Mr; Bryan himself Is one cause of
dlssentlon, and Mr. Bryan is not guilt
less of hls share of responsibility for
this. Yet hls leadership remains Intact
and unchallenged.
"He has been treated with respecL
but no good end can be served by treat
ing him with reserve. He has no re
serves himself, and while this might
be a vlrtuo In a private citizen. It be
comes weakness ln a public man, and
something more harmless In a party
leader.
Asked whom he favored at the next
Democratic candidate, Colonel Watter
son said;
‘I have no favorite and no favorites."
"But tbe ‘dark horse,’ about which
ths newspapers have been talking so
much?” he woe asked.
T know of Just such a man, but
without Mr. Bryan's backing nobody
can win. As soon hs Mr. Bryan tells
me he Is out and asks me for my man,
I will whisper the name to him, and
not before.”
